Beatdown Chowdown Part 3

All All MECA Backblasts

October 29th, 2016 By The Farm

EIGHTY-TWO men posted in search of all three Fs this morning and they got it! As the cars continued to roll in, it was evident that this would turn out to be another special morning in which men from multiple AOs and regions could come together to do what we do best – beat ourselves down (1st F), eat a nice breakfast (2nd F), then build ourselves back up (3rd F).

1st F
Moses, Gnarly Goat, and Soprano assisted with the 1st F as follows:

Quick Mosey to form an 82 man COP…I don’t remember the specific exercises but it went as follows:

1 burpee
20 reps of something that’s NOT a burpee
2 burpees
20 reps of something that’s NOT a burpee
So on until we reached 9 burpees. I remember mericans, CDDs, air squats, some weird knee up thing that’s almost like a crunchy frog but not quite and lots of other stuff. For those that are counting at home, that’s 45 burpees mixed into the warm-up.

We were then divided into three groups and hit three stations:

Station 1 (Drainage Ditch)

To get us acquainted with the hills, we were split up into two groups (one on each side of the rocks). Next, we quadraphila’d up the hill then ran down AMRAP. Flapjack sides and repeato on the opposite hill. After getting comfortable with both hills (if you’d call it that), we grabbed rocks we’d be proud of. Quadraphilia up the hill, then 10 curls. Run down the hill then 9. Reduce the number of reps, then plank to wait for the six. Flapjack sides and repeato…only sub shoulder presses for curls. Plank when done. Put rocks back. Quadraphila up the hill, 10 burpees at the top, run down, 9 burpess…you get the idea. For those that are counting at home, we’re now 100 burpees deep into the beatdown. Brutal! Also, I heard there were some groups that incorporated yoga and monkey humpers here. Please sound off and explain yourselves…

Station 2 (“Michigan Sprints)

According to @BOS, this is what UM does at the end of workouts. Hate to break the news to you brother, but this ain’t Michigan! Anyway, sprint AYG x 10. Reduce the distance between the cones and repeato. Reduce the distance again and repeato. Then broad jump to the end. Much harder than it sounds

Station 3 (Tires, Blocks, and Mericans)

We formed teams of three and performed the following:

1st man grabs a tire and walks to the curb and back. While he’s doing that, one teammate does curls and the other does mericans. Rotate through three rounds.

Mary:
We worked our abs until 7:30am

@Sandman made a grand appearance, we surrounded him in an 84 man BOM and @Dredd prayed us out.

2nd F
Chef @Dutch and the StoneBridge Church’s RealLife Group took over from here and served us a spread of bacon pancakes, bacon, sausage links, bananas, eggs (I think), muffins, coffee, milk, orange juice, and water.

3rd F
Breakfast led right into a brief talk from @Dredd about what F3 is and why it works (@OBT observed, smiled, and nodded). George McGovern, chaplain for the NY Giants & NY Yankees spoke to the group about how he became a Christian as well as his experiences as the chaplain of many of the New York professional teams.

Moleskin:

Thanks to everyone who made this possible. @Moses, @Soprano and @Gnarly Goat for Q’ing. @Dredd and @OBT for starting this thing and @Dingo for inviting them to come. @Moses again for bringing this thing north of 10th St. @Dredd asked how many men are now in Isotope but the men of MeCa should also be included in that number as we branched off from Isotope. No them equals no us. #historybuff

Thanks to @Dutch and all those who cooked while we worked out so we could a post beatdown breakfast.

Thanks to Stonebridge Church for financing the breakfast and having us for both the breakfast and your guest speaker. Thanks to George McGovern for coming to speak to us.

Great seeing @Sandman wearing his F3 shirt and in good spirits after he suffered a heart attack after Q’ing a beatdown last week.

Many of you might’ve noticed a familiar face was missing today. @Dingo was off with @Forgotten Jelly and @Ajax tackling the Spartan Beast and completing their Spartan trifecta. They did just that and are home safe and sound as I’m writing this. YHC and several others wanted to thank @Dingo for selflessly and tirelessly being the Master Q of Tradition for almost three years. Tradition launched in March of 2014 and since has grown to be one of the largest AOs of our region. Many pounds have been lost…many miles have been logged…many men have gotten stronger…many lives have been changed. Several ‘originals’ have split off to form other successful AOs and share the gift of F3 with other men. None of that would have been possible if it were not for @Dingo. One of the reasons why we exist as a group is to grow male leadership and @Dingo has decided to hand the reigns to @Guinness. Now it’s @Guinness’ turn to experience the many highs and lows that come with being a Master Q. Thanks for everything @Dingo! Good luck @Guinness! Despite this change, something we also should remember is we are all leaders whether or not we hold ‘official’ leadership positions. None of us should feel restricted. @Dredd and @OBT weren’t estricted when they left their small workout group to start and grow F3. @Moses didn’t feel restricted when he brought it up north. @Dinggo, @Belding, and @Skipper weren’t restricted when they launched Tradition. We should all feel freed to lead!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Enjoyed it! Sound off!

  2. In the overly used words of my fellow beast runner “looks like I missed a good one”.

I drive past Tradition this morning at 6:30, enroute to pick up Ajax, and was in awe of the amount of men in the parking lot! I honestly wanted to forget about the Spartan race and come and be part of the BDCD. But Jelly would’ve cried and i hate it when men cry, so on we went.

I appreciate your kind words Farm and I am truly a better man for being Traditions Master Q for 2.5 years. It has grown me in ways that I didn’t think imaginable. But most importantly it has taught me the importance of giving ines self away #Iam3rd

Thanks to Moses, Gnarly Goat & Soprano for Q’ing. Not many know, but The Goat was supposed to Q the BDCD last year. I had no idea that Moses was bringing him this year!

Thanks Dredd and OBT for making the journey north of 10th street. I know it’s scary for Dredd up this way, so far from home, but that’s why you have OBT. He keeps you safe. We always enjoy when you come our way!

Did I mention I completed the Spartan Trifecta today?! Spartans are legit.

    1. Dang! Looks like I missed a good one.

I’m not sure if I would have cried or your sponsor would’ve cried if I dropped you off. Although, perhaps you would’ve cried knowing you were that close to your trifecta and didn’t do it.

  3. I knew this was going to be a special morning. Not only did Dredd not lose his way enroute to north of 10th, he and OBT actually arrived early enough to offer a noteworthy pre-game show. After Dredd beached his non-mini-van country-lawyering luxury sedan onto a concrete parking shoal, they disembarked to show us how to roll around on what appeared to be a large cheeto, to pontificate on Frodo’s BRR mental game, and to opine on whether OBT’s ultra BRR career will continue. Dredd wears his sarong even before the workout, so that was nice too.

I need to point out that at no point in this beatdown did my group of pax do any type of yoga. First off, I’m a good Catholic boy and I do not partake in the black arts. Second of all, I am very wary of cultural appropriation, and I would never want real yogis think that I was intruding on sacred yoga turf. And third of all, F3 workouts do NOT do yoga on principle. With that said, we MAY have partaken of some manly flexibility building in a Stretch Armstrong sort of way. If the coo’ing is any indication, it was well-received. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

Other awesome things I recall: An FNG, Sandman, much hustle on the Michigan, a motivating from-the-heart pray out from Dredd, a great breakfast and talk.

The whole thing really made my day. I was glad to be there. Aye!

  4. Nice work to all that made the beatdown happen. Glad to have found F3 this year!

  5. Thanks @Tradition and all for making that a great experience for all the pieces yesterday! So glad I rolled out of bed extra early on a Saturday for it. I almost spilled merlot on those Michigans.

Was also great meeting these Qs from elsewhere and men from all over. One big memorable part is calling out the names around the circle, so many unique ones that I would love to find out how the F3 Names came to be.

And it was especially great to see @SandMan make his appearance at the end.

  6. This was great men. Thanks for having the WeaselShaker and me join you.

Keep doing what you’re doing (even with Dingo if necessary).

    1. I knew that workout was missing something! #MoreNeckBeard!

      1. They will survive without me being there(yet I’m not going anywhere), but they will perish without the exact amount of neck beard……

  7. Great beatdown. The Drainage Ditch was the worst, if only for the slick spot on one side that I was stuck trying to run up every time.

That or the Michigan Farts that some cruel Pax was releasing upon us during the sprints….
