Wrightsville Beach Marathon, Here We Come.
All All MECA BackblastsNovember 5th, 2016
9 men from all around MeCa came together this morning to get in a little mileage.
For some of us, today marked the beginning of our marathon training. A journey that will be long and hard. but we welcome the pain.
It was previously agreed that the 8 milers would post at 5:00, get 3 miles in and then pick up the 5:30 crowd for the additional 5 miles. All went to plan, except we forgot that The Farm is “NEVER LATE ON SATURDAYS”……but he was. We didn’t wait for him.
3 mile loop up Prosperity Church Rd and across J.Oehler and back to the AO. Gentle Grizzly, Pharoah, AstroVan and R2D2 joined me for this part of the journey. We had a great time learning new ways to yell out “DJ DISCOVER!!!” which is R2D2’s stage name. I believe I had perfected it, until someone pointed out his stage name is not DJ Discover…..and I still cant remember what it is……
R2 informed us that 3 was enough for him today and called it quits.
We were joined by Blinddate, Terrible Towel, Funky Bunch and yes…..The Farm……Who had run the 3 miles solo. I cant remember what excuse he gave this time…..It all just sound like “You were late”to me now…
I asked Blinddate to tell us the route! Big mistake! He had no idea where he was leading us. So we ran the route. It was 5 miles and a lot more hilly that I thought it would be. There were tall tales of bear slaying, snake wrangling, and more dare devilish adventures of the pax!
It was a good run, felt fresh, and was over before I knew it! Mostly due to the great 2ndF! Thanks for running this morning guys! Always good when you spend half the workout laughing!
Big Props to Astro Van, he completed his longest run ever! And at a solid pace and no walking!!
Great to meet Terrible Towel! Hope to see more of you brother!

No excuses, I was late….for an 8 mile run at 5am on a Saturday. It worked out well though.
Good run this morning! Great way to kick off marathon training!
