I Feel the Need….

All All MECA Backblasts

July 20th, 2016 By Trail Mix

Now that YHC has officially joined the ‘Of Rabbits and Bears’ BRR team, I did the logical thing for my next cruise Q… scrap the hills and forget the distance, we’re having a Speed workout! Many moons ago, I’d join Dingo and Pongo on Friday mornings to get our tails whooped at the Highlands Speed workout, and, well, something about me has missed it. Here’s how it went down at the Valley.
Warm up run through Colvard Park, and gather in the bus lot. Take a tour of the loosely defined 200m track, and line up for 1 round to determine partner pair-up.
With your partner, race 200m, 100m, 100m, 200m, with recovery between each.
Mosey to the posts by the Hill of Shadows. Race your partner to the top, recover back down. Quadrephilia up, recover back down. Repeato.
Mosey down to bridge. Race to the posts, switch to quadrephilia to the top.
Back to the bus lot for 1 mile relay, breaking into 3 groups of 4.
COT & BOM.

Moleskin:
– Some Pax feel a strange draw to the white circle in the Valley parking lot… kinda mysterious if you ask me
– Man Down started talking up his “calf injury” as early as last night to YHC. He must have fortuitously known that we’d be partners, as he sand-bagged and corner-cut his way to beat me (nearly) every time we lined up. Happy BDAY!
– Strava Fly-by is pretty entertaining from this morning
– So much effort put out there, I hesitate to name names. But McFeely and Pongo had no-quit in them today. Ribshack straight dusted me and Dingo to kick off the relay. Somehow Striker held his lead over Man Down and Landlord on the final lap. Hope you don’t have to chase any criminals today after that…Sound off below with any other highlights I missed…

AYE!

  1. Great workout @TrailMix. I enjoyed the change of pace, plus I think varying your speed like that is good for the heart and all those other healthy benefits. I’m just glad that I made it through.

@R2D2 – it was great running beside you

@RibShack – I think we all witnessed some sand-bagging. Strong finish brother! You killed it during that relay.

    1. @BD- no sandbagging, I left that to the Chatty Cathy Pair of DingElly. I seem to run better when I have the end in sight. I can do A to B just not A to Z very well. 🙂

      1. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

  2. @TrailMix- great workout. Enjoyment is a relative term but I really did enjoy that today. I think everyone had some small successes that made it a good one to walk (limp?) away from.

@Pongo- good work today. I think you had some “fire” going on there today.

@Dingo- your elbows aren’t that effective that far down! 🙂

@Rocker- thanks for partnering up & the “pushes” to get ‘er done!

  3. Great change up TMix!

  4. Thanks Trail Mix. That was definitely a good change up and I was toast by the end. Still amazed at that extra burst Pongo was holding back!

    1. #nailedit

  5. Nice one this morning Trail Mix. It was actually kinda fun.

  6. Forgot to mention that dingo swears he heard some coyotes during our warm-up run this morning. What does the fearless co-captain of the BRR team do, get on the other side of me so I would be the first target. #hilarious

    1. No one else heard those 2 coyotes communicating? I think our “pack” freaked them out.

And Jelly, survival of the fittest my friend! While they attacked you, I could evaluate my course of action. If that resulted in your death, then so be it.

      1. I heard a very loud owl, but no coyotes. I think he was hungry and perturbed that The Farm was not with us.

    2. Also, please note…..I would never push a fellow BRR runner into a pack of Coyotes. #justsayin

      1. LOL!

      2. Owls don’t “yip” my falling down friend

        1. Nope, but they HOOT. Heard lots of that this morning!

        2. You are evidently not familiar with North Carolina’s native Barred Owl my baby-eating Aussie friend.

          1. Wow! I stand corrected!

Jelly was scarred of an owl!!??!!

          2. @ManDown is on point with the youtube links!

          3. I would like to point out that it was you dingo who was scared. You even told the guy with the dog to watch out for coyotes. I originally said I thought it was owls.

          4. Wow…. all of that from 1 owl! I thought there was an owl, rooster, and dog hiding in there!

We carried on huffing and puffing while ignoring it.

          5. Um, Dingo, didn’t you used to work for Meck County Park ‘n Rec???
I now understand why you no longer have that post.

  7. 1. Sounds like I missed a really good cruise – We went hiking up McRae’s Peak at Grand Father Mountain this weekend and I was still stiff – bummer!!
    2. All of this back and forth about a hooting owl vs. a coyote just proved to me that you are a bunch metrosexuals!!
    3. Top Gun was my favorite movie in the day. I worked as a movie theatre usher and ALL of the chicks would rush to this movie to see Cruise’s smile. Of course, I volunteered for this shift each time.

    1. The day I finally showed up this week, you miss!

Man Down’s owl video is almost exactly what we were hearing out there in the gloom.

Might have to find and queue that movie up for the kids (much like we did Ghostbusters last week 🙂 ).

      1. LOL. I was doing the Maximus beatdown at Tradition.
