F3Concord – Popeye’s Muggy-Morning Adventure
All All MECA BackblastsAugust 23rd, 2020
It was a cool but muggy morning so 10 road warriors went in search of adventure…
Warmup
Run to the old parking garage and circle up
SSH 20x
Soap drop IC 10x
The Thang
This was a basic long run with pain stations style workout. The first leg started at the old parking garage and went down Church St towards the hospital. We turned onto Edgewood and cautiously descended the hill of terror. El Ab mentioned he still wakes up in cold sweats when the hill haunts his nightmares. We navigated the neighborhood to the most obscure entrance to the greenway a few blocks away from Southern Strain. Fun fact: the city is building a playground at this location. For extra drama we forded the creek and moseyed down the greenway towards the dead end nearest the hospital where we began pain station #1:
20 merkins
10 burpees
From there we further moseyed in the opposite direction towards McGee park. On the way was pain station #2 at the bottom the hill:
50 squats
Bear crawl up the hill
We continued along the greenway to where it merged with the old greenway and onward to the swing sets where we had pain station #3:
5 pull-ups
10 wide arm merkins
Next we ran under Corban then turned up the hill and followed Corban back towards downtown. This hill will now be El Abs next nightmare. It was a beast but all 10 men fought hard and made it to the bottom the new parking garage for pain station #4:
20 low flutters IC
10 diamond merkins
Up we went to the roof the new parking garage for pain station #5:
I was so tired I don’t remember
Lastly we took the stairs to the bottom, ran up Market St to Cabarrus Ave and onto-
Mary:
Broga and stretching
4.5 miles logged in total
Prayers were submitted for Homeland’s aunt and her move as well as for strength and leadership through 2020. Thank you again for the honor to lead. Today reminded me of why I keep coming back to F3. We had all F’s going strong today with ALL pax attending coffeteria. We got a drop in visit from Windex and his friend Lee who has lost 80 lbs and gave us inspiration. We named Java’s soon to arrive child (children?) in December for him so that’s one less thing for him and the M to worry about. You’re welcome. We celebrated the evolution of the F3 workouts from something resembling Egyptian pyramid-building slave labor with comparable casualties to the less life-threatening workouts of present day.
I know we’ve all been changed in one way or another by this year, but F3 allows me and I’m sure others to focus that change in a positive direction.
Respectfully,
Popeye
