3 Guys, a dog, and a dead snake walk into a bar….

All Harrisburg Backblasts

September 11th, 2019 By Wexler

YHC was so very excited to get out there this morning after the impressive group of newcomers that came out last week.  I knew the BRR guys would be resting up but everyone else would surely be excited to get in a few miles…right?

The Humidity was topping out around 250% but YHC had promised a nice slow flat course.  Who could pass that up?

I pulled in around my usual ‘Early/late’ time of 5:10am.  I knew I had already missed @Clueless and @Riptide’s launch but I figured i could get in some mileage.  I was having a nice little run when my headlamp (they are important) flashed on something big, brown, with diamonds all over its back. And my foot was headed right for it.

With the grace of a drunken truck driver doing ballet on a dare, I jumped and twisted around in mid air trying to avoid it.  It was at least 4 feet long and just hanging out in the road.  I was pretty sure it was dead but wasn’t taking any chances and set a new PR hustling back to Town Center to meet up with all my new running buddies….

5:29….no one….

5:30…..no one….

5:31…..no one

5:32…@Riptide and @Clueless return.  Riptide takes pity on me and says he will run with me.  Dick Tracy shows up with his puppy and decides to do some laps around the Town Center.

Obviously  my heart is still pounding from the snake encounter and now i have the jitters of running with the Godfather of all Triathaletes!  But Riptide is training for this Half Ironman in October and needs someone to train with, right?

*insert shot of Riptide and I looking down disapprovingly at @Flipphone as he rolls out his Yoga Mat*

And we are off!

I tell Riptide I am planning on an easy run this morning and he said ‘oh yeah, nice slow pace’

Narrator:  It wasn’t

Show Riptide the Massive snake I almost stepped on.  He said, yeah that is definitely dead, as we both stand a good 5 feet from it.  Riptide said it was a Copperhead and to stay away from them.  Noted!

So no new running buddies as it ended up being just 3 of us, a dog, and a dead snake.

Sleeping in can be important but you guys missed a really great run this morning where a couple of Triathaletes were able to be real men and discuss their favorite Broadway Musicals.  Overall, I ended up with 8, Riptide did 11.  Not sure what DT ended up with as we came in late but he was moving out there.  Serious props to everyone who made it out this morning as that humidity was unreal.

  1. We did two big laps of the TC. About 2.4 miles. And we showed up later than that … but I’m slow.
