Who are you following?
All Harrisburg BackblastsNovember 28th, 2018
6 men overcame their winter slumber to get out, put in some miles, and get better with some brothers. The 25 degree weather made us run just a little bit faster than normal to keep warm.
SS Minnow told us about Gene Dykes. He’s 70 years old and just ran a marathon in 2:55. He was 34 seconds from the world record. Amazing. He started following him on Strava, YHC will soon do the same. What SS Minnow won’t brag about is that he just finished the Tryon half marathon in 1:35. As he’s following Gene, we’ll be following him, trying to get faster, despite our age number going up every year. There are no excuses. Read Wexler’s back-blast yesterday of Teddy Roosevelt and start kicking the right person responsible for your current speed, or lack thereof.
Bull came out this morning for a surprise visit to Road Warrior. There’s another guy to follow. Him and Hootie just finished a 50-mile JFK race. 50 mile run … in the same day … and lived to tell the story. Wow. And he’ll circle back for you as many times necessary to keep you going. What he won’t do is slow down to your pace, at least not for long. If you want to “run” with Bull, do your best to keep up, and you’ll get so much faster in the process.
Wexler was out there this morning doing sprint intervals going from the six up to Bull and SS Minnow. His dedication to be there every day, take on leadership projects in the community (adopt a park), the Q multiple times a week, run with Bull in 35-degree rain, lead Gremlin planning, CPR training, are all worth following.
Banjo Boy, Exit 54, and YHC were out there too, running steady. Banjo and YHC were on the slow-steady side this morning. Every day can’t be a PR day, what can you do.
We talk about leadership so often, but finding someone to learn from and follow is just as important. Take Solo Cup’s challenge. Find someone to invest in and push to do more than they already are.
Take another challenge also. Find someone to follow. Try to keep up with HKP, Exit 54, Clueless, or Bull at a workout. Try to post as many times as Wexler in a week. Ask for help and advice. Ask Oz how he lost 30 pounds recently. Ask Minnow what it takes to run a 1:35 half marathon.
The route went like this. Nothing special about it.

Great Lead, Great Message! Don’t forget yourself though with all the work you do at the Orphanage! Not to mention, there is no way I would be out there running if it wasn’t for you. During my third F3 workout ever, i was sucking wind after we ran a mile and yelled out, ‘I hate running.’ You laughed and said, oh come, its good for you. From that moment on you inspired me, encouraged me, and badgered me to run. Invited me out to pre runs, always came back to get me on the six and annoyed me to no end about running the Huntersville Half last year. Something I never thought possible. Especially when I think back to that mile run that almost made me quit F3. I only signed up for the half because you said, ‘hey man, you can always walk it just to say you did it.’ Sometimes its those little things like your two sentences of encouragement that helped me break through my own mental blocks.
I didn’t walk it the half and now I hate when I miss the Road Warrior workout. I can’t thank you enough for that!
Aye! Thanks brother!
#TClaps @FlipPhone and PAX! Great message! Looks like a fast crew this morning.
I’ll be back out Saturday after my exercising for $$ at this ASU study.
Knew you had to be on vacation or something. Make sure you stop taking your steroids though, for their testing to be accurate.
Good route this morning, @FlipPhone. Thanks for your leadership in Q’ing so often, and thanks to you and Kojak for leading the efforts to make the orphanage residents Christmas brighter.
F3 does provide plenty of opportunities for growth from both following and from leading!
One complaint though, the group was quite cold on the run this morning, and I thought you were going to take that opportunity to introduce the cuddle run to F3? … #showtoknow
No way to “un-see” the cuddle run visual. Thanks Joe. ????
