All Harrisburg Backblasts

October 26th, 2017 By Gamma

So last Saturday, as TeenSpirit and Talladega practically sprinted past in a Bear Crawl, it struck me hard that I was not putting in a lot of effort. A few of us even joked about half-assing the workout. Over the next few days, I couldn’t shake the feeling that aside from travel days, I post a lot, but do I really work out a lot these days? Not sure if it was the lull after BRR or the fact that I still have almost five months before the Custom MeCa GoRuck Tough (that you should all consider…), but regardless, it’s easy to show up and just go through the motions. Afterall, it doesn’t impact anyone else, right? Yes, you’re cheating yourself and wasting your own time, but why would anyone else care? There are a lot of phrases you hear often in the F3 world, maybe so often you stop paying attention, but for me, the one that stuck out….and unfortunately, the one I clearly have let slip lately…is that it’s not about you, it’s about the guy next to you. So as I mentioned before the main event, the Q owes it to the pax to try to create a workout that tests all fitness levels. The fast guys owe it to the slow guys to push them. The slow guys owe it to the fast guys to do push as hard as they can to keep up. Yes, the fast guys will circle back and leave no man behind, but if that last guy isn’t even trying, he’s doing a disservice to the pax. And regardless of speed, if you’re out there going through the motions distracting others from working out, you’re also doing them a disservice. Watching the six doesn’t involve slowing down to the slowest guy, it involves trying to push him to be faster. As he gets faster, he can push the guys ahead, who can then push the next guys ahead, and so on. Everyone wins.

(And no, I’m not subtly jabbing anyone in particular. This was purely a self-revelation, but if it strikes you as well, do something about it.)

But anyway, 13 heeded the call, at least one purportedly because of the promise that “it will be fun.” Here’s how it went:

1. Thanks for putting up with the rambling, and thanks for always pushing me, even when I didn’t push myself. For my part, it’s time to start getting after it again.

2. Great to see Chaos back out in the early morning, and thanks for the words during COT. You are absolutely correct – once you start coming out, it’s easy to keep coming out, but once you start missing workouts, it’s easy to keep missing them and you need a catalyst to change that. Tclaps to Posh for being that catalyst for you. We can all do a better job of doing the same for others.

3. Protip for Ti85: when Clueless starts talking about Spartan races, don’t make eye contact. He considers that an HC. But let me tell you about GoRuck…

4. For those keeping score at home, we did 50 Diamond Burpees, 90 WWII Sit-ups, 120 Air Squats, 140 Wide Mericans, 150 LBCs, 150 Apollo Ohnos, 140 seconds of planking, 120 Flutter Kicks, 90 Curb Hops and 50 Shoulder Taps

5. Tclaps to Bull, Kojak and Rerun for the pre-workout mileage, although Rerun might want to pick Kojak up next time…

6. Reminder that Exit54 is leading a special Acceleration tomorrow at the Bradford Park neighborhood pool. Alternatively, there’s a tough workout at Stallings Road Park as Kotter is on the board with his VQ.

7. Prayers up for Dick Tracy as he recovers from hernia surgery.

8. Lastly, I’m sure the bus drivers are more careful when they’re driving your kids…

Cheers!

  1. Always enjoy being out there with this group.

  2. Thanks for those wise words Gamma.

  3. Well said/written @Gamma! We can all pick each other up and collectively benefit. We’ve got a great group!

Yeah… Ti85 was totally in on the Spartan, but something about his parents coming into town took higher priority. #NextTime

For anyone interested, Kojak and I just decided yesterday to do the Spartan Beast on 11/5. There’s still a Groupon available. If you’ve got an opening in your schedule, join in the fun.

  4. Good reminder Gamma- Thanks for the words of wisdom.
