So there was some discussion on Slack about the modifications to the Cruise in that it had gotten away from a run only post to a modified version that too much resembled a boot camp work out (YHC opinion). So how do you combat that trend? Well, you sign up to Q. There will be no merkins, no prisoner squats, just running- and maybe some Mary at the end! Thus the six that showed headed off into the 55 degree, moist and humid gloom when the starting gun went off at 5:33 am (yes I was late).

Down the Greenway with the plan to hit each “turn out” on the way down and back, allowing PAX to modify and stay in touch with the group. It worked for everyone but Sparknut, who tore off on a blazing pace so he was mostly out of sight the entire time.

Turn outs were on Marquette, Astoria, and Alexia (up to the cul-de-sac), plus the dock on the pond (to the far railing). Simple!

So maybe this route is to be dubbed the “Fish Stick?” Other suggestions are welcome.

Sparknut won the virtual trophy with a Strava-provided time of 3.3 miles @ 7:01 pace for total of 23:32 minutes. My Nike iPhone app gave me 3.19 miles @ 8:15 pace for total of 26:20 minutes.

Then to everyone’s dismay, Mary was called. Both IC.

  1. Glad to see Heatstroke answer the call, good numbers today. JB and Miracle Gro have joined Sparknut and Sugar as Cruise regulars, let’s keep it going.

    Thanks for playing along today!

    Until next time.

  2. Well it didn’t totally suck. Always a bit better when you have others out there sucking wind with you AND wouldn’t push as hard alone so normal F3 benefits apply to the cruise as well.

    I had 3.2 @ 8:05 per the ancient Garmin.

Nice route. Maybe we break out the hill repeatos next time??!!

  3. Great job by everyone today. Thanks to all the Pax who push me to grow and hit my new Cruise pace record. I wouldn’t even be running if it weren’t for Sugar and Marie dragging out to the Cruise in the first place, Schnitzel challenging me with the Army PFT, and the new regulars that keep us motivated.

  4. I was just looking through a bunch of old RS workouts to see some of the CSAUP stuff we have done and see how the group has changed. Impressive to see all the creativity and literally no two workouts are the same.

During my reminiscing, the very appropriate “Look How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox 20 started playing on Pandora.

Been a pleasure sharing both the 1st F and 2nd F with you fellas in the morning. Get stronger. Get faster. Get better.

  5. Excellent words, JB, I concur. Been a great journey so far and plan for it to continue.

This was a nice re-entry cruise beatdown, nothing too crazy, thanks MC! The hammies and calves have been problematic recently, but feel pretty good now. Hoping to post the cruise on a regular basis.
