RED Friday: The Hansen

All All MECA Backblasts

December 23rd, 2016 By MajorPain

In a beautiful morning 13 of my personal favorite PAX gathered to celebrate a true American Hero. Marine Staff Sgt Daniel Hansen, and YHC had the honor of leading them. At 0630 (really 0530, but I live in daylight savings, or baseball time year round) a disclaimer was giving and we went for a short mosey around front of church, circled up for a quick warm of:

15 SHH

15 IST’s

Some HUGE and tight ARM circles

15 Squats OYO

Grab a kettle bell!

HANSEN:

5 RFT

30 Kettle bell Swings

30 Burpees

30 WWII Situps

Great job everyone, YHC did not finish on time and had detention and help with last round of burpees and WWII sit ups. The rest of these STUDS killed it! Thanks for helping me through it! If you want to know a little more about Staff Sgt Hansen:

At 17, Daniel left his family in August and reported to MCRD San Diego as a recruit. While at boot camp, he earned a meritorious promotion upon graduation in November 2002. In February 2003, Pfc. Hansen graduated the School of Infantry and was selected to attend Marine Corps Security Forces Training Company, Norfolk, Va. During this time, Pfc. Hansen was screened for the Yankee White Presidential Detail program. Upon graduation in April 2003, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Cpl. and received orders to Marine Barracks, 8th & I. Lance Cpl. Hansen received advanced security training and assisted in providing security for the United Nations General Assembly. In May 2004, he was assigned to Camp David Presidential Retreat. Hansen received orders to 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Upon checking in to 1st Marine Division, Cpl. Hansen was hand-selected and placed in charge of the personal security detail for Maj. Gen. Richard Natonski. Due to Cpl. Hansen’s extraordinary performance, he was assigned temporary additional duty to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force as the personal security officer for Maj. Gen. Richard Zilmer. In February 2006, Cpl. Hansen deployed to Camp Fellujah, Iraq, where he carried out the billet of commanding general’s security officer as well as being the VIP security coordinator for all VIP movements. Hansen was promoted to sergeant in March 2006 while deployed. Shortly after his return to the states in February 2007, Sgt. Hansen received orders for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School at Eglin AFB, Fla. In January 2008, Sgt. Hansen graduated EOD School and was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS)-171, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. While stationed at MWSS-171, he participated in exercises such as Southern Frontier 2008, Pitch Black 2008 and other events within the EOD community. His dedication and great attention to detail in the performance of his duties led him to be hand selected as an individual augment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. On Feb. 14, 2009, Sgt. Hansen was posthumously promoted to the rank of Staff Sgt. Staff Sgt. Hansen’s personal decorations include: the Purple Heart, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a gold star and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with bronze star. He has received the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment ribbon.Staff Sgt. Daniel L. Hansen, U.S. Marine Corps, was a high spirited man. He dedicated himself completely to everything he did. He enjoyed mixed martial arts, grappling, sparring, sky diving, hiking, camping, snorkeling, diving, white-water rafting, cycling and working out. He also enjoyed quality time with his family, writing stories with his twin brother and watching anime. Daniel took the greatest pride in all that he did and held himself to the highest standards. He wouldn’t hesitate to help anyone in a heartbeat for any reason, without requiring compensation.

  1. Dang, impressive background and accomplishments for Daniel Hansen there. Had a ton of stuff done by the time he was 29.

I’ve looked through the Hero WODs to see if any had any kind of shadow boxing stuff and other MMA like things, none of them do. But seeing he was big into MMA and grappling he seems like he’d have been a good fit for it.

Killer beat down though. Even in the first round I wondered about finishing it!

  2. @major pain – impressive lead and tribute to Mr. Hansen.

    1. Thanks MP for the workout! I got all 5 sets but felt it this morning and found out what 9 minute mile running was like this morning. Thanks for the reminder of America’s heros.

      1. Doing all 5sets left a lasting impression on me for this morning’s beatdown by @Buckwheat. First Merkin I did.. “aaauuggfhhh all those burpees yesterday!”

  3. 13 men! That’s awesome! Great job guys

  4. Great lead Major Pain and thank you for your service.

  5. Love reading about SSGT Hansen!! Thanks for sharing Major Pain.

That was a solid beatdown this morning. I took off my windbreaker less than 5 minutes into it. Thanks also for your attention to Stopper. It’s good for young men to see strong men leadership. Oorah!!

  6. Thanks @MajorPain. Great Beatdown, even though I only finished 3 sets.
