Run Faster if you want to Run Faster

All All MECA Backblasts

December 14th, 2016 By Sugar

4 men appeared from the dense fog with the intention of a satisfaction cruise. Cruise it was not but despite some groaning, I think we achieved Satisfaction.
Early morning message from Waterboy that he was up late taking care of his 2.0 and wasn’t going to be able to make it so I decided what better way to celebrate my birthday than to tackle my VQ as well.
Quick disclaimer that I really have no clue what I’m doing, it went a little something like this:

Mosey to HRMS and circle up for a little stretching while we wait for Marie to catch up.
SSH x 34
Windmill x 10
Cotton Picker x 10

Mosey down to the track for some speed work (groans).
1 lap sprint around the track, walk 1/2 lap
2 laps, walk 1/2 lap
3 laps. walk 3/4 lap thanks to Loco’s audible
2 laps, walk 1/2 lap (Marie tried to escape at this point but we got him back)
1 lap and then a mosey back home.

Thanks for joining and pushing me to work harder with each step.

Thoughts for the day:
Colossians 3:23 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart
Proverbs 14:23 – All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty

  1. Well done JB! I feel faster already!

    1. Throw some sprints in once a month with the longer runs and you will see dramatic drops in your overall pace and times. Teach the legs to take longer strides.

That fog and full moon combo are the definition of gloom.

  2. Thank you thank you! Sorry fellas to miss but jimmy buffet brought the thunder!

  3. Nice VQ, Jimmy Buffet, especially for a guy who used to do track work training with girls (that coming from a guy named Marie doesn’t have the desired effect, I suppose).

Good work with Loco and Sugar pushing the pace, makes us all better. The workout seemed to go by quickly and once done we put about 3.5 miles behind us including the partial recovery laps and the distance to and from OES.

Sparknut, you missed a good one.

    Until next time.

  4. Nice work Jimmy Buffett! Man, I’m sorry I missed that one. I’m still chasing the illusive 100% on my Army PFT 2 mile run and this work out would have helped me get there. I still need to shave off 30 sec/mile. I need you guys’ help to get there. …in the morning

  5. Great workout JB! Despite my groans I know it was good for me. My recorded splits are below for a point of reference:

1 Lap – ~6:00/mile (guessing since I didn’t start a lap at the right time)
    2 Laps – 6:47/mile
    3 Laps – 7:16/mile
    2 Laps – 7:04/mile
    1 Lap – 6:11/mile

    1. If only I could keep that up for 5 mi!

  6. Thanks for the stats, Loco. As hard as that was glad to see that was much quicker than our typical cruise pace of approximate 8:15 min/mile…
