Honoring two fallen heroes today
All All MECA BackblastsDecember 9th, 2016
11 men came together to honor two fallen heroes on this chilly morning. YHC decided to do the Loredo Hero WOD and the Brenton Hero WOD this morning.
First up, the Loredo WOD:
– 24 squats
– 24 Merkins
– 24 Walking Lunge Steps
– 400 meter run
6 Total Rounds
Next, the Brenton WOD:
– 100′ Bear Crawl
– 100′ Broad Jump (3 burpees after every 5 jumps)
3 Total Rounds
Unfortunately we ran out of time to do all three rounds of the Brenton WOD. We will have to do that one again.
Now, time to talk about Loredo and Brenton.
Edwardo Loredo
U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Edwardo Loredo, 34, of Houston, Texas, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, was killed on June 24, 2010 in Jelewar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He is survived by his wife, First Sergeant Jennifer Loredo; his daughter, Laura Isabelle; his stepdaughter, Alexis; and his son, Eduardo Enrique.
SSG Loredo was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on July 27, 2010. He was given full military honors. See here for some more information as well as pictures of this ceremony.
Timothy Quinn Brenton
Field Training Officer Timothy Quinn Brenton, 39, of the Seattle Police Department, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting while on duty on October 31, 2009. He is survived by his wife Lisa, his son Quinn, and daughter Kayliegh.
Prior to joining the police, Officer Brenton enlisted in the Army and served during the first Gulf War. See here for more information about Officer Brenton. His name was included on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.
While RED Friday workouts are meant to challenge us and to help us remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we need to also “remember everyone deployed.” Take some time during this holiday season to send something to our troops. Go here for more information on how you can do this. Finally, thank a veteran the next time you see one. Help them remember that we appreciate what they do.

Nice push by all this morning. Looking forward to what’s in store for next week.
Good beatdown Jelly and good to see the PAX number nearly double from last week. Both workouts were challenging but worth every second honoring these two fallen heroes.
TClaps to Jelly, Major Pain, Seeker and King Louie for doing a pre-run, even though you were late Seeker.
Major Pain- You were in vintage mumble chatter form this morning, bro. Hilarious.
Pongo- Way to push through the suck and great new nickname for Google (Google Fiber)!
Seeker- It was good chatting (err grunting while you talked) during the 400M loop man.
Jelly- Good choices on these WOD’s. The second one definitely added the finishing touch on me. I was done. Thanks for your efforts in setting up RED Friday!
And what’s going on a Tradition? Only one (the Q) shows for BOMB??? Good thing Maximus had another option today!
I’m thinking we just drop BOMB and do RED Friday. Just noticed that no one signed up to Q any of the BOMB workouts for the rest of the month.
“even though you were late Seeker.” I dunno, Seeker at least ran with Major and Jelly didn’t he…? I showed up with barely enough time to do a mile and was almost late doing just that.
And yeah I think having 2 workout options on Friday is kind of hard, especially since Tradition often is in the 5-13 PAX range… Plus given the option I think a lot of us probably rather do the “honor our fallen heroes” thing. I’d like to do B.O.M.B. but given the choice I’d rather do the one that stands for something. Plus in general the BOMB workouts have been having less people (are they fart sacking then going to the book study?).
I’d lead a BOMB if we had no Q for it and people that wanted to do one, but right now I think the only one that would turn down RED is Luxury until his leg gets better for running.
The RED workout is excellent in its physical intensity but more importantly in what it stands for. Great to have a workout with such purpose. I agree – I vote for RED only for the rest of the month on Fridays at Tradition. I only signed up to Q today for BOMB at the last minute in case there was a kettlebell pax enthusiast who wanted it – I wanted a Q available – I personally like RED.
Excellent lead @jelly.
I specifically looked at the list to see if I could find a WOD with heavy kettle bell use, but didn’t notice one. Though I can’t Q a RED one this month, especially with the (last I checked) unclaimed Q spot on the last Friday is when I’ll be out of town with my Mom and sister for Christmas.
For the record, I was joking about what was going on with Tradition meaning that regular KB peeps were doing more running style workouts lately…. Nonetheless, I agree that RED Friday is the best option due to recent low numbers at BOMB. That is likely due to Friday being a rest day for several Pax and those who attend the book study.
As Maximus stated, RED Friday is a great option for both physical intensity and most importantly for what it stands for.
I wasn’t joking 🙁 SWAT seems to still average 5-10… BOMB seems to be in the 3-5 range.
RED draws in people that don’t do just @Tradition though.
As for more running at Tradition…. I’ve tried to look up exercises involving running with kettlebells before. 😉
