22 Until None – a tribute to our veterans

All All MECA Backblasts

March 11th, 2016 By Harding

15 men chose to leave their fartsacks to help me pay a special tribute to all the veterans who struggle with PTSD / Depression and honor a close friend and war hero who lost his battle last week.  We drew our inspiration from the “22” veterans who lose this battle daily, the fact that those with military service are “200%” more likely to commit suicide, and that 1 in 5 of all suicide deaths is a veteran.

We finished the day by accepting the 22 pushup challenge (2016 version of ALS ice bucket challenge) and called out our Dredd, OBT, and our fellow MECA AOs.

Warmup:

Mosey / butt kickers / high knees
22 Side Straddle Hop
22 single count merkins
22 Imperial Storm Troopers
22 cotton pickers
22 CArolina Dry Docks

The thang:

20 merkins every minute for five minutes

Partner up
Partner 1: run to opposite curb, do 22 burpees
Partner 2: LBCs until return
switch

5 stations:
Station 1:  Mountain climbers
Station 2:  Low plank to high plank
Station 3:  Jump Squats
Station 4:  Lunges up hill to station 5
Station 5:  Quadraphelia up hill to station 1
(Rotate to next station when everyone from previous station arrives)

Low flutter

22 merkin challenge – ACCEPTED (video attached)

Thanks to all who came out to join me in our tribute to the 22 veterans who lose their battle with PTSD / Depression every day and the countless others who continue struggle with it.  This was intended to help me put a close on a very difficult week after the loss of my close friend Timothy O’Connor and despite a very challenging first “F” workout, I was more impressed with the second “F” I experienced.  I truly appreciate the support and brotherhood of this group of men.

Special thoughts and prayers are with MAN DOWN and his family as they face a challenging period in their life and battle cancer.

Our prayers are with Major Pain’s son who is preparing for a deployment to Iraq.  We ask God to watch over and protect him and his brothers as he heads to the front lines to defend our freedom.
