Eye of the Needle

All All MECA Backblasts

February 20th, 2016 By Gamma

20 had nothing better to do this morning, so they decided to better themselves. Best as I can recall, it went something like this:

SSH x25 (while Bull changes shoes)
Slow Mericans x10

Mosey down the path, along the sod field to the pond field.
Slow Air Squats x10
Find someone your size for:
10 Partner Shoulder Presses
10 Partner Get-ups
10 Partner Throw-downs

Up HeartRateHill to the shelter
5 Burpee Box Jumps every minute, on the minute, for 10 minutes (some impressive math minds quickly figured out that would be 50, unless you’re Hong Kong Phooey, in which case you do 60)

Mosey down the playground
Super Sets of Pull-ups/Mericans/LBCs
2/5/10
4/10/20
6/15/30
8/20/40
10/25/50
8/20/40
6/15/30
4/10/20
2/5/10

Out to the field for ~20 yard sprints
One sprint in the first minute, adding a sprint every minute. Plan was to continue until we had only one man standing, but the interest of time, finished with six sprints….I believe almost everyone made it that time.

Mosey up to the turnabout for a few minutes of lower body stretching courtesy of Clueless.

1. Thanks for coming out and tolerating another addition of make-it-up-as-I-go-Q. You can thank Hootie for my lack of planning with his pre-emptive BS call last night in the form of a picture telling me I’m number one. I also heard a real BS call in the form of “this sucks…would you please actually plan a workout next time?”

2. I think I cut off some circulation trying to do Clueless’ Eye-of-the-Needle stretch. Or as Gapper put it, “but when I do that, there’s no eye of the needle!”

3. When you’re doing Partner Get-ups, make sure you both have a solid footing. Otherwise, foot-slippage can result in awkward touching, which explains why Bull and Hootie didn’t look at each other the rest of the workout.

4. Thanks to Gapper for the American history lesson….although when he got to the “dirty Irish” I had to stop listening and go to my safe space.

5. One Rucker and a bunch of Bull Runners putting in extra work. Tclaps to BBQ, Swami, Hootie, Bird Cage, Othello, Riptide, Bull, Gapper. I believe the first three did 10 miles and the rest put in 6+. Wasn’t really paying attention, so sound off below if I missed you or the mileage.

6. Caught off guard by Othello’s “Big Hero 6” reference during COT. Showed the video to my 2.0s and that made their day…and helped them clear their minds of the Oz close-up.

7. Great to see Ticonderoga consistently again. Now that both 2.0s are mobile, he needs to be at the top of his game!

8. Bull and Clueless are studs. Lots of effort out there (especially with some guys running up to 10 miles beforehand), but between the Pike Pull-ups and Top Shelf Burpee Box Jumps, they set the bar high for all of us. Also from the Understatement Files, Tumbler is crazy strong. On half the Partner Get-ups, I barely touched the ground. Not easy stopping this much mass from hitting the ground.

9. We almost had a “join-my-team” free COT. Almost. Thanks Posh.

10. Full Starsky was in effect at coffeeteria. Chaos showed up later as well, but we’ll just call that sleeping in.

  1. Strong work today. Hate that the rest of you missed it.

  2. Sorry for the lack of trigger warning before commenting about your heritage. I forgot what a sensitive flower you are.

Look for more history talk next week after I finish listening to the 7-hour, 5-part podcast series about Ghengis Khan (true story).

Bull Run correction: everyone but me did 6+, as I was solo on the regular 4+ mile course.

    1. Thanks, and good call on the trigger warning, because as I’ve learned from the news, the appropriate response to being offended these days is to demand that some random official lose their job. And I’d hate to have to do that to someone.

That said, I need a new safe space for the sensitive flower comment. It may be true, but I’m still offended. Sensitive flowers unite!

    2. And even if it was just 4 miles, strong work!

      1. I also go in 6.2 miles before the brutal beat down. Had to leave way early to do it, but it got done…

  3. Fun stuff at the #RailYard this morning @Gamma! Enjoyed the mix of different exercises. It was also super nice of @Gapper to share the Charlotte history lesson with the PAX. I’m not Irish, but I’m easily offended. That’s gotta count for a demotion of someone, right??

#TClaps to those doubling down on the run/ruck prior. @Othello and his new Adidas looked strong rolling in.

    1. Thanks @Clueless. Even after 3+ years of Q’ing workouts, it’s always great to take away thrings from other Q’s. Still didn’t get it to the bar you set Thursday, but tried to slow a few exercises down. Thanks for the ongoing lesson on form and speed.

Didn’t notice the new kicks on @Othello. Someday he’ll admit what we all know – he’s a runner!

  4. Gamma, holy smokes dude…that was brutal. It could have been the mileage I put in beforehand, but I’m pretty sure it was your random Q calls that smoked me today. Partner work was good and I felt a full body workout was def in effect. Not really sure what you were thinking at the playground…sounded scientific… #Math Either way, it was a great post. Thanks for the lead. I especially enjoyed the mumblechatter today. Kept it interesting…thanks Gapper. lol
