Cruising Large
All All MECA BackblastsDecember 16th, 2015
14 pax said “NO!” to their warm bed and said “YES!” to their brothers and the gloom. Compared to recent weeks of small numbers at the Cruise, this morning we were Cruising Large baby!
The Thang:
- Needed to cover some less frequented routes today so we did the Hunting for Honeysuckle / Uphill Both Ways out and back route that took us to the bottom of the world which is the Christenbury hood.
- Mileage totals varied by the various finishing routes but topped off at 4.8 for the long group.
The Naked Moleskin:
- Loved having a big group out there this morning. A pace and a running brother for everyone.
- Ironhide is apparently being stalked by a early morning commuter who angrily honks at him every time he sees him in the road. Our group of reflective vest wearing, blinky light, headlamp running fools got pulled into this hate/hate relationship and were all on the receiving end of a long honk or three. The group agreed that it is pretty weak for the dude to honk AFTER he passes us. Man up – honk to our face.
- It was great to have 2nd timer Dr Toby join us following his inaugural bootcamp post at Highlands yesterday. I asked him how he felt and he said not good – that he was sore in muscles he did not know even existed. Welcome to the party Pipe Cleaner. It won’t get easier but you will get stronger.
- It was also awesome having the Primetime/Mortimer/Winnebago trifecta join us this morning. They were putting in a nice easy run after some speedwork earlier in the week. That group of idiots have a Boston qualifying 3:10 Myrtle Beach Marathon target in their sights. A ballsy goal and I wish them success. Heck, I might even join them for some of the speed training…when you guys doing that next?
- Just as we got the shields locked for COT a mini-van came around the corner so all 11 of us shuffled across the lot to make way. Yea, that’s awkward in more ways than one. However I am guessing it did not bother @Primetime one bit as he shared earlier that he fully enjoys some face2face partner bear crawl action whenever he can get it….and no matter how infrequent that may be – it is too often.
- Glock shared this morning that reading a backblast post yesterday was the motivation that got him out of the sack this morning. Iron sharpens iron, guys. Don’t ever think that skipping a workout, bowing out of leading a workout, or deciding not to share something on your heart/mind is a #VictimlessCrime. There is at least one pax who needs to hear it. #IronSharpensIron.

I needed the Cruise this morning. Glad my brothers were there to take it from run to fun.
Great to be back at Highlands, far too long and it is on me. The group has gotten noticeably faster since I last did a cruise. @Nighthawk apparently thought he needed to add a little loop every so often to meet his distance needs.
@Nanny speed work you should reach out to @Mortimer for exact dates we often do them on Tuesdays and it varies between Lake Norman Charter which is not far, and Starbucks on Gilead exit 23 as launch point. Come on out, we have an awesome time and @Primetime hates every second just ask him and there are multiple Pax who can confirm it absolutely will improve your speed.
