7 came out for a nice easy run through the old neighborhood on a beautiful spring morning.  Little did we know there was something lurking in the shadows just waiting for us….

Great work out there guys!  Beautiful morning for a run and way to pick up the six.  Now to the important stuff.  Coming up the hill on Patricia, I was about middle of the pack and i just had a sense to glance to my right.  When I did I saw two eyes silently and quickly moving towards me.  I quickly realized there was no fence and slowly started to turn to be prepared for anything when those eyes got bigger and closer and I heard a woman screaming for the dog to get back.  This thing came right at me without barking or making any sound.  I remembered from my days of delivering newspapers and pizzas how they trained us to deal with dogs and I took an aggressive step towards the dog with my hand up screaming “stop!”  The dog stopped coming at me for a second and then tried to move around my hand to get closer.  I repeated stepping at it and screaming “stop’ about 20 or 30 times.  The woman who had run out of the house was trying to grab the dogs leash and kept falling down as the dog kept lunging to try and get to me.  The dog came up at least to my waist and was big and mean looking.  I kept screaming at the dog until the woman finally grabbed the leash.  The dog was way too big and strong for her and it kept lunging at me and pulling her along.  She finally got it under control and took it back in the house.  It was dark but i swear it was a King corso Pittbull (as much as Dud who came up after the fact swears it was a toy poodle).  Either way, I am glad I had remembered that training and already gone to the bathroom that morning.

 

While this was a close call, its a good reminder for all of us to be careful out there.  Clueless and I were just discussing if we should be carrying pepper spray on our runs or any other animal deterrent.  I am going to for sure on all future runs.  It is something we should all be careful of and make sure we do stick together.  It all happened so fast but the other guys were able to get to me in a few seconds if the dog did ultimately attack.  Be smart, be careful, and be safe!
