Slippery then wet

All All MECA Backblasts

January 11th, 2017 By Sugar

4 Brave PAX (1 whom likes to actually run during a cruise, crazy I know) showed today with threat of rain on the radar.  With no Q we all stood around and discussed the plan as we waited (a loooong time) for our ‘runner’s’ gadget to find a satellite – or vice versa).  Gadget found, course discussed and we’re off.

Heading to the Greenway it was questioned whether it would be slick or not – push ont!!!!  First bridge – packed with snow but greenway clear.  Didn’t get sketchy until after the second snow-packed bridge.  Who’d a thunk that black ice was so hard to see in the dark!!  So we penguin-ran about .25 mi to the Marquette Grinder for some clear passage on the streets of Moss Creek!

The course:

Greenway to Marquette to several forgotten streets making our way to Ravenscroft.  Left on Duckworth, left on Moss Plantation (that’s when the rain came to the Haunted Day and back to Moss Farm to pick up the pace for the wet home stretch.

Distance – 3.79 (via the trusty old Garmin Forerunner 10)

Total time – 31.50

Pace 8.24/mi (with last .79mi at 5:53!!)

Moleskin:

Thanks to Loco for relieving us of the ‘go to’ Fishbone.  We had a nice run today and a bit of breathless F2.  We all hung together for the most part finishing just seconds from one another.  I’ll take 8:24 on a slick and wet course any day!  Not too shabby!

Always a pleasure!

  1. Aye! 4 is pretty good for nasty conditions!!!

    1. @Sugar – I don’t know how you did it today. I’m stove up from Tuesday.

  2. Cold and wet, and the greenway was downright treacherous.

Nike Running App showed 3.73M @ 8:43 pace for total 32 min 34 sec. Slow and sluggish this morning, hope to get back on track over the next few weeks.

  3. I’m proud of you dudes for getting out there in the rain. #respect

Anyone want to do a long run – like 8 miles at a 9:00 pace? I’m going to start doing one per week…no backpack required.

    1. Check with the Tradition guys. They got several long loops on Saturdays. Starting at 0500 I think

    2. Great run this morning guys. You definitely pushed me; no way I’m running 8:30 pace in these conditions on my own.

I can go out for a run from my front door but the little bit of 2nd F (first mile only) and my internal competitive nature of not wanting to get left behind makes these cruises significantly better than a solo run.

    3. We are running 8.5 at 5am Saturday. Followed immediately by a 6.5 mile loop and then a 3 mile loop.

  4. Penguin-run, I like the sound of that, probably a good quad workout. I can see calling that up as a real beatdown – I’ll wear a tux for the occasion.
