The 2nd Running of the Highland Hashers

All All MECA Backblasts

June 1st, 2016 By Skipper

Today was the day for a redo of the “Highlands Hash Run”.  This #Cruise was originally attempted 4/29/2015 and it’s taken this #Hare over a year to lick his wounds for a retry. @TheNanny called my first attempt an #epicfail.  Would today be better?  21 Highland pax would find out, but @TheNanny would not. #epicalarmclockfail

The #Hare Thang:  YHC recruited @TheFarm to join him and launch 20 minutes early to leave a trail for the #Hounds.

The #Hounds (pax) found the following instructions attached to the shovel flag:

Ahoy! And thanks for posting at #F3 Highlands Cruise Hash Run!  Today you are a Hound.  Your goal is to catch the Hare (hint…he’s wearing a Skipper hat).  Follow the trail (chalk, paper, clues, etc.)  Work as a team.  You don’t have to run at the same pace, fast guys can sprint ahead and help locate/navigate the trail for the #six.

If you see a  (Circle with check mark in it)   that means you need to check in all directions for the continuation of the trail.

A   (Square with X in it)   means wrong way.  There will also be clues to point you in the right direction.

0530 Release the Hounds!

Which direction do you start?  1st Clue: How does a Hare exit the HCES parking lot? (Answer: Rabbit Hole)

Summary of the route: Up and down Skyline, back to golf course, around lake to Hartfield Downs Dr, out to HC Pkwy, right to Google’s house, on to Pavarotti’s house, back to school entrance and then up to Street Ave and around to Shelley and back parking lot. (Approx 4 miles)

Rabbitskin:

  1. A definite improvement from last year, however the #Hares were caught earlier than YHC expected, in front of @Googles house, but we completed the course anyway #haresandhoundslivinginharmony. Next time the #Hares will leave about 30 min before #Hounds. #continuousimprovement
  2. Another change YHC made from last time was to share the secret route with @TheNanny ahead of time so that one of the pax would be able to steer the #Hounds correctly if things went terribly awry.  Apparently @TheNanny wasn’t impressed with the course so he decided to #fartsack.  Luckily, YHC also let @Snare in on the intel, however it sounds like his guidance wasn’t needed as the #Hounds were able to follow the trail quite effectively. #humidityprovidesstrongscent
  3. T-Claps to my rabbit friend @TheFarm who I talked into joining me last night for this #harebrainedendeavor.  Let’s see…you’ve never #cruised at Highlands so you don’t know our running routes, well at least you look exactly like me so that when we don the matching #SkipperHats no one will know the difference. #twinsies
  4. So what is “hashing”? You can google Hash House Harriers, or similar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers).  That’s where YHC got most of his info. There are even Hash groups around CLT.  Btw, hashers have a lot in common with F3ers (COT, nicknames, enjoy beer).
  5. Pax – Thanks for posting 21 strong today!  And thanks to @Hammer for praying us out.

Ahoy!

  1. Hope you guys enjoyed it, unfortunately I know one man who didn’t, “F#@%king unbelievable!” #F3love

  2. Thoroughly enjoyed this, Skipper. Impressive amount of prep work involved. In the spirit of continuous improvement, I really think you and the Farm should’ve worn the Skipper hats the whole time. Surely no one would’ve questioned your sanity…

  3. This looks MUCH more fun than what we did over at The Valley today! Too bad @Skipper only invited one to join. I guess The Farm does bear the most resemblance though.

    1. Hey!!! What we did at The Valley was fun!

      1. Well, you were all smiles and butterflies out there. Almost got killed by Buckwheat for it too!
