Ramblings on 10 years
I’ve been doing this “Thing of Ours” for 10 years. I joined this group during one of the darkest times of my life. My wife had just been diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. I had an 18 month old kid. No direction in my life or career and only a couple of friends. I needed help more than I realized.
@BanjoBoy and I had been doing bootcamps at the YMCA for a year. He heard about this group that recently started in Harrisburg that offered “free” workouts. He being someone who can’t do things alone, convinced me to come with him. I was sure it was going to be trap where we ended up raped and crying behind a dumpster at the High School. That didn’t happen, but @Escalade put us through hell for 45 minutes. I threw up in the drive way at home. The next day I showed up at what was then #RenegadeRun at Stallings Park, met @BillyGoat and @Swami, and was hooked. That Saturday I officially became @SoloCup, a moniker I proudly bear to this day.
Over the last 10 years, I have completed some amazing physical achievements. Q’ed over 400 workouts, Run 15 Half Marathons, Spartans, Marine Corp Mud Runs, countless 5 and 10ks, food challenges, 10K Merkin Months, Day long boot camps, and more. All of this would not have been possible without your support and encouragement.
Finally, it’s safe to say that this group continues to teach me what it means to be a leader and I have had some amazing examples in my time here. The culture that @Gamma and the Original Four started is the perfect breeding ground of leadership in this community. We don’t wait around for someone to tell us what to do, we see a need, grab some guys, and make it happen. I am proud to tell people I am from F3 Harrisburg and see their faces light up when they tell me they’ve heard about the work we do. We are a group of leaders in every facet of our lives. I challenge you to keep that mindset and remember that this is “more than a workout group.”
Thank you for all that you have done to make me a better man.
Keep Pushing,
