Spartans: To the Sport-plex!
All East Charlotte BackblastsNovember 22nd, 2019
YHC accepted the responsibility to lead the Spartan workout at Area 51 today. All participants are good runners who are looking to get some miles in and I don’t want to disappoint. We also need to get some bootcamp work in too. So, YHC decided it would be good to travel to the location he was taken to during his very first Spartan workout last year: The Sportplex! It is approx 1.8mil each way but elevation coming back sneaks up on you.
0520, YHC plants the Mint Hill Flag and greets the Pax (not remembering anyone’s name)
0525, Gypsy and more Pax arrive
0530, YHC gives a very lousy disclaimer and starts the mosey.
Wait, here comes Madison on 2 wheels, continue the mosey in a circle to allow him to catch-up and off we go.
The Thang
- Out the parking lot, Rt on Trade.
- Cross over John, Rt on E. Charles (County Rd 3453) – YHC almost missed it, thanks Gypsy!
- Noticed a lot of traffic on this road this AM, keep your head on a swivel. Tclaps for the Pax with head lamps who led the way!
- Lt on Crestdale, over RR trax, Lt into the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Parking lot for a little Warm-o-Rama after picking up the six
- Low Flutters x20 IC
- SSH x20 IC
- Grandpa Jacks x15 IC
- Low-slow squats x10
- Mosey out of the parking lot and make a Lt. on E. Charles (Gypsy suggestion: Use the sidewalk if you dare)
- Lt into the Sportsplex. YHC was a little confused as to the nearest field, Pax assisted and we moseyed to the first field on our right after the entrance.
- Ran to the center of the field for a little game of “Starfish”
- 20 merkins in the center, then run to…
- Corner 1 – 10 burpees, return to center for merkins
- Corner 2 – 20 Jump Squats, return to center for merkins
- Corner 3 – 20 CDD’s, return to center for merkins
- Corner 4 – 20 WWII’s, return to center for merkins
- Plank up for the six
- Low Flutters x20 IC
- Mosey back out of the Sportsplex and make a Rt, back up E. Charles.
- Stopped in the little gravel area on the Lt where the Train Tracks cross the road (near Morris Road). There we did a little:
- Windmill x10 IC
- Lt on Charles heading back to the Church Parking lot for our next stop.
- LBC’s 10 IC (thanks to someone who helped with cadence)
- Low flutters x10 IC
- Hill Billy’s x10 IC
- Mosey out of parking lot to a Rt turn on Charles (again)
- Stop at the new lawyers building (Budd) driveway on the left, next to the Post Office
- 20 Mt. Climbers IC in the pine needles
- Mosey the rest of the way back up E. Charles to Trade.
- Lt on Trade, cross over to the other side after Renfrowe’s Hardware
- Stop at the traffic light to do some Air Squats while waiting for the light to change (I know, I know, should have been Monkey Humpers…next time)
- Cross over John and mosey into Stumptown Park for a little…
- Pax Plank Jump-overs: Pax will Plank next to each other in a line starting at the sidewalk and heading up the grass towards the lighted memorial. When all are in plank position, the pax on the farthest left gets up and ski-jumps over the other Pax’s legs to their right. Once at the end, they get back into plank position and await their next turn. Each Pax on the left continues with the jump overs until the entire group reaches the lighted memorial.
- Everyone then Bear crawls back down the hill to the sidewalk. Plank for the six.
- Mosey around the park using the sidewalk offered, head out of the park towards our starting point between the church and school.
- Meet up with the rest of the Area 51 Pax and join them for a little Mary
- Total mileage – 4.4ish
- Total suck (90-100%… I hope)
