3 Years of F3 at M3

All Rolling Stone Backblasts

October 25th, 2019 By Heatstroke

Three years ago, after having some conversations with Sparknut while having some work done on his car at Christian Brothers, YHC decided to get up REALLY early (for him at the time) and post for the first time at F3.  Schnitzel’s 16 year old son, Bagheera, led that workout with a bunch of pumpkins as coupons…say what?!  Decided to show up the next day and got that sweet, new legendary name, Heatstroke… Here’s the amazing story behind that name.  YHC works for a company called Quench.  Gatorade was mentioned, then somehow that prompted the name Heatstroke, and that somehow became the winner.  Ok, soooo that’s not even close to an amazing story or legendary name, but we move on as the name doesn’t matter, and it never has.  It’s a very small form of acceptance into this awesome group called F3 where men push each other, and lift up one another, in an effort to become better leaders, and overall men, in all areas of their life.  F3 will meet you where you are.  If you want just a little 1st F and that is all, it is there.  If you want to place a big investment in all 3 Fs, that is there too.  You get out what you put in.  Alright, YHC seems to be putting the touchy feely moleskin right at the beginning of this BB (modify as needed) so let’s move on.

YHC had decided that for his 3 year anny, gotta do it up big with all the props available at M3.  Also, gotta include his 2.0 Goldbond too.  Small problem.  Lots of props equals lots of prep time.  Lots of prep time means showing up early.  Not a problem for QIC, but probably not so awesome for Goldbond.   The boy has fartsacked many a HC when the 0500 wake up call has arrived, no chance of getting him out there with an 0430 rooster call.  What to do…get up even earlier, set up, then come back for the 0500 2.0 wake up call.  Nothing crazy about setting your coffee maker timer for 0320…not at all.  Insert GoRuck training flashback here.  0345 get up, have some coffee, change and leave.  Steal some rocks from the middle school for bucket carries and get to Christian Brothers and get the flag in the ground and set up.

Eat your heart out Jocko!

Close to 0500, about done setting up.  Return home, awaken Goldbond, get him ready and head back.  “Is Wormburner coming?”  I hear from the back seat.  We both look at his house across the street.  Pitch black.  “Not looking like it Goldbond.”

We arrive back to a decent crowd building, which sure beats my solo effort exactly one week ago.  My promotional begging is paying off.  Which is solid, as getting up an hour early to set up a beatdown for 3 people is beyond not worth the effort.  More on effort later.  YHC had EH’d Gulfstream to this party, and he rolls in by adding to the toy collection (as he has quite the garage collection himself) with sandbags and his ruck.  We are about to 0530 and to my surprise, the proprietor himself and my EH’er, Sparknut has appeared.  The fartsack has been having its way with him a bit recently, so its great to see him.  And, he has EH’d Dr. Phil, who makes Sparknut look like he posts to every workout, to make an appearance.  Then, to everyone’s great surprise, emerging from the darkness comes none other than the man from the darkened abode, Wormburner!  Goldbond is smiling from ear to ear that his buddy from across the street made it. Tremendous also to see pax that aren’t fartsack victims, but generally choose alternate Friday options, like Jimmy Buffett, Schnitzel and Soprano out in support.  Disclaimer given and we are off for 3 laps (for 3 years) around the lot then…

Warmarama: SSH, Windmills, Merkins, Mountain Climbers

The Thang: 3 year anny, so we be break off into 3s.  Hot Pack and Manwich are almost as strong as 3 so they are the twosome.  The props are at the ready and here is what how it went:

Mary: None.  Cleanup and photo opp time, see below!

COT: Praise for an amazing 3 years for YHC.  Prayers for Sugar taking on a GoRuck T/L this weekend in Dayton.  Prayers for my co-worker Michelle undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.  Prayers for my dad who now has an aggressive form of skin cancer to go along with his prostate cancer, looks like they have caught it early but radiation treatment will start soon.

Moleskin: Yes, there is still some moleskin left.  Big thanks to all that showed up today, and frankly, all of you that show up and post period.  It’s what makes this thing possible.  Gulfstream’s 85# sandbag was certainly a crowd pleaser out there #alittleheavy.  Some nice symmetry with Schnitzel back out again three years later, with a different one of his 17 kids, Beef.  Kilowatt’s support was appreciated as he trains for a marathon and this workout offered only the opportunity for injury.  Steel Cannon also was out there celebrating having a minor league baseball team named after him, congrats!

I said there would be more on “effort” later, and this is later.  I feel like effort is where I have made a huge improvement in these last three years, in all areas of my life.  So, so often there is the easy way out in almost every scenario in life pulling on you to just take the path of least resistance.  The easy button is always there.  But hitting the easy button is NEVER rewarding.  The reward is in challenging yourself, even in the smallest of ways.  1st of all, getting up to exercise outside at 0530 in the morning already takes you down the path of heavy resistance.  Which is solid.  But through F3 I have begun to challenge myself further, whether it be leadership roles, or larger csaup physical challenges, and all that goes with both of those things.  These challenges have strengthened me physically and mentally…and these things carry over into other areas of life.  When things get tough, you persevere and overcome.  We all have responsibilities as adult men in this world that pull us all over the place.  My M said to me the other day as I told her I had a church responsibility/soccer practice/cub scout thing or whatever that I had to go to, “you have all these things that eat your time and you NEVER EVER complain.”  The thing is, 5 years ago, I would have whined like a little bitch that I didn’t have time to lay around and watch television or whatever.  Downtime to relax is certainly important, but we don’t need an abundance of it, and doing things that help people and are truly rewarding shouldn’t take a back seat.  F3 has helped me realize this.  I read something recently that Talent + Effort = Skill, and that Skill + Effort = Achievement.  Common Denominator – Effort.  I didn’t have to get up at 0345 to make an elaborate beatdown happen today, I could have easily winged it and been perfectly fine.  I chose effort instead though.  I’m glad I did, and I’m glad I made the effort to show up 3 years ago today as well.

And oh yeah, this backblast…it took some effort too:)

  1. Appreciate the effort you have put into everything for F3. I don’t think I have ever seen someone work so hard to make the workouts unique, enjoyable and challenging all at the same time. You dedication to the organization is incredible. Looking forward to another 3+ years of the gloom with you. Your age doesn’t command #respect yet but your actions certainly do.
