“Special” Forces
All Harrisburg BackblastsAugust 17th, 2019
With many of the regulars at Dad’s camp, BRR training, or just plain scared, 7 still posted under the threat of Burpees and other dumb stuff. It went something like this…
Slow walk over to the shelter, Toy Solders, High Knees, Butt Kickers…then circle up.
#disclaimer
Warm-up
Mountain Climbers x20
Slow Air Squats x10
Slow Mericans x5
LBCs x15
Then we eased in to the workout with:
5 Burpees every minute for 10 minutes
20 Dips, run down Heartrate Hill, 20 Mericans, back up Heartrate Hill
Repeat with 18, 16, 14, 12 and 10; if you finish early, plank or join the Six….or find an open bathroom
Quick “break” to run back up HRH to check on Big Bird, then back down
Partner up; P1 runs about 30yards up HRH and back while P2 does an exercise, then swap until the team hits the total reps:
50 Air Squats
40 LBCs
30 Mericans
20 WWIIs
10 Burpees
Using the walking path; P1 runs a lap while P2 Lunge Walks; when P1 catches up to P2, P2 runs and P1 Lunge Walks; second time around switch to Bear Craws or Burpee Broad Jumps; continue until both make it completely around.
Back up HRH to the cars
Mary
Flutter Kicks x20
LBCs x20
The Squirm x15
Pretzel Crunches x10
2 minute Eye-of-the-Needle stretch
COT
Foggy Moleskin
1. Humidity sucks
2. Strong work this morning. Yes, I was a couple bourbons in when I thought up the workout last night, but still didn’t anticipate covering 2.5 miles.
3. We had quality over quantity in terms of pax count. “Like the Special Forces” says Scooter. Um, yeah, we’re special alright…
4. How many math/finance/audit guys does it take to multiply 10 by 5 and realize we started with 50 Burpees? Apparently all of them.
5. Tclaps to Talladega for not only getting in the full 6-mile Bull Run, but keeping up with SSMinnow while doing it.
6. Thanks to HKP for running with me on the Slow Kid 4-mile Bull Run. Granted he did it with a ruck on, so it worked out well. On a related note, we’re soon to have another rucker in our midst. Rhymes with Fumbler….
7. Did I mention humidity sucks?
8. Genius move by Big Bird with the fake “wife has car trouble” phone call just as we’re about to start round two of Heart Rate Hill.
9. Strong work by Starsky fighting through injury. Must’ve been why he was so grumpy with the girls at RRC.
10. Nice work by Wexler and Pocahontes on their 14-miler, a distance PR for Wexler. No credit in the pax list, but still worth a mention! On an unrelated note, Flip Phone slept in at Dads Camp, then had ice cream for breakfast. (disclaimer – I have no idea if that actually happened)
11. As always, great times at coffee. Lots of conversation about 2.0s being moved into college this weekend. My unsolicited advice: Detach and give them some space, so they learn some self-reliance. They will call you if/when they really need something…or if/when they just want to talk, which is a great feeling as a parent.
Pax tibi,
