We’re Going the Distance, We’re Going for Speed
All BackBlasts BackblastsMay 3rd, 2019
Four of the Highlands’ speediest PAX came out Friday morning to add some distance to their speed work, and to stake their claim to many of Strava’s AO-based segments.
YHC gave the disclaimer (complete with proper usage of the term ‘writ large’) and away we went for…
Warm-a-rama
- Follow the leader with some karaoke, front to back parking spot runs, and side-to-side parking spot runs.
- Lined up at the stop sign on Dogwood Road and run fartleks (mosey/sprint/mosey/sprint/etc) from tree-to-tree, down and back.
- More fartleks, but this time replace sprint with @stoli-skips down to Street Ave.. Mosey/sprint fartlek back to stop sign at Dogwood.
The Thang
- The first segment we tackled was the Firehouse Loop. Start at the RRMS stop sign, run Dogwood to Street to Ridge. Right on ridge to Shelley, right on Shelley to bus lot. Finish back to the RRMS rock at the front entrance.
- We woseyed down to the Parkway entrance to the parkway, where we then tackled the Dogwood to Street Ave. climb. From the entrance, onto Dogwood and right onto Street and all you’ve got to Ridge.
- We part-woseyed, part-moseyed down Ridge to Shelley, where we inversed the Shelly Ave. climb. AYG down Shelley to the Parkway.
- Mosey to the rabbit-hole and in front of HCES where we partnered up for some partner sprints. Partner 1 ran the middle parking lot loop while Partner 2 planked, and then switched. x2
- We then set up at the start of the cones for same set-up, but much shorter run around cones and back. Partner 1 running, Partner 2 planking, then switch. x2.
- Indian Run back to the cars for some @poutine-led stretching.

Moleskin
- Prayers for all those struggling, including @gordo’s friends who have a child fighting leukemia, and @poutine’s friends who have a child struggling with depression. Thanks for the prayers for my M’s family with the loss of her grandmother.
- Continued prayers for the UNCC community. Convergence on campus (Parking Lot 7) Saturday at 5:30a. Ends at 6:15a, so no conflict with the Highlands Anniversary Beatdown. Pre-blast: https://f3-meca.com/2019/05/02/convergence-at-unc-charlotte/
- Highlands 7th Anniversary Convergence is Saturday at Mallard Creek Community Park. Starts at 7a, with food/coffee at 8a for some quality 2nd-F. Be there to celebrate the birthday of the original MECA AO.
- While we did the skips, no sign of @stoli. Or @pavarotti for that matter. Hmmm…
- Props to @gordo, who managed to get out for speed less than a week after dominating the Smokey Mountains!
- Great to lead you men this morning. Great work!

How long was Speed today?! 2 hours? You certainly packed in a lot. Glad…er…..sorry I missed it.
We got it all done in about 40 min, with five minutes left for stretching w/ @poutine. Crazy what gets accomplished when the warm-up doesn’t traverse the whole parking lot(s)
