Be the Match is an organization that works to match patients (often leukemia) who need bone marrow transplants with donors. They run a bone marrow registry and all that’s required to join the registry is a cheek swab. They get the information on the DNA markers they need and enter you into the system that doctors can use to see if there’s a match with a patient in need of a bone marrow transplant.

In 2015 I had the incredible opportunity to donate blood stem cells to a leukemia patient. It’s an incredible story that I recommend you read about here: https://f3-meca.com/2018/08/13/why-i-gave/. The impact it had on my recipient’s life as well as mine is incredible and intersects with my involvement in F3. My recipient along with his family will be at the race along with other donors and recipients.

As a way to raise awareness and funds for Be The Match they are hosting a race in Charlotte, details on the race and how to join and donate are below along with my contact information if you have any questions.

Here’s the details on the race: 

Date: 9/22/2018

Time: 9AM is the race, I’ll be there at 7:30AM. There’s a program before and a chance to join the registry as well.

Location: University Research Park – 10101 David Taylor Drive Charlotte, North Carolina, 28262

The course follows the Run Run Rudolph 5k course which is a segment on Strava you can preview. The website below also has a PDF of the course.

To race and join the team: Online registration is closed but you can still register the day of the race. You can save time by filling out the form and waiver on the website above and bringing it with you to the race.
