Miles and smiles…and of course Merkins

All Rolling Stone Backblasts

April 25th, 2018 By Heatstroke

On a soggy Wednesday morning, 5 PAX took their #DRP and entered the gloom.  YHC and Project entered particularly early at 0400 as YHC needed a short ruck workout and a 6 mile post ruck (calculations were done and it was determined 45 minutes is not long enough to complete this…) and Project just needed straight miles – all to get closer to finishing the Pathfinder training program.  YHC performed a 20 minute ruck workout with the meat being 11s – ruck burpees/squats & Flutter kicks/sit ups.  Upon completion, ruck miles for Project and YHC.

Return to AO at 0530 to see Pox, GB and Kilowatt.  Kilowatt had his ruck ready as he thought I might be rucking alone and thought I might get lonely.  As Project was keeping YHC company, and Kilowatt ain’t training for a GoRuck event, he was convinced to put the ruck back in the trunk and get some running in.  The runners hit the track for laps, with 20 Merkins being performed after each lap.  They logged ~3 miles and 200 merkins, nice.  The ruckers finished up and Project hit 7.5 total miles while YHC hit the 6 miles he needed to complete the pre/post Pathfinder challenge.

COT: The Greensboro branch of The Refuge church is collecting donations of Food Lion gift cards to help those in need in Greensboro who were affected by the tornado.

Moleskin: Truth be told, I performed 1/2 burpees with my 50# ruck on this morning.  The freshly completed 10K Merkin Challenge had my shoulders barking at me on descent, so modification made.  Speaking of my shoulders, they did not appreciate the ruck either, had to take it off every mile or so.  Never had to do that before, thank you again Merkin Challenge.  Thanks to Project for some ibuprofen.  Kilowatt and Golden Boy have the Merkin finish line in sight, get it boys!!  Kilowatt is now what I consider a “sympathy rucker.”  He’s not going to go out ruck training on his own, but will be your battle buddy anytime…good man.  T-claps to Project for logging miles on his gimpy foot/ankle/shin, brother is going to take some time off after finishing the Pathfinder program, but not too much time off, the Heavy awaits.  I’d say I enjoyed it, but would probably be lying today, as doing ruck 1/2 burpees on a wet basketball court at 0410 does not typically derive joy…but I definitely got better (probably more mentally, than physically.)  Appreciate y’all.

  1. All smiles

  2. Over slept again- internal clock apparently still hasn’t reset since my hiatus back from first of the year. So I set the alarm for 4:30 am on Wednesdays – I don’t plan on missing another Cruise.

    1. Marie, you have my permission to set your alarm for the other weekdays too:)

  3. @heatstroke – For some reason, rarely oversleep on the bootcamp days, it’s always for the Cruise. Must be because that is the worst workout of the week…

    1. Ha! Good to have you in the gloom on the regular nonetheless @marie

  4. I love to oversleep on Wednesday; luckily its Golden Boy’s favorite day
