8-foot putt for the win…
All Highlands BackblastsJanuary 25th, 2018
Another cold morning in Charlotte saw a good turnout for a Thursday beatdown. 19 of MECA’s finest gathered in the gloom not knowing what was in store for the morning’s fun and games. Promptly at 5:30 AM the disclaimer was given with the obligatory interjections from @Gump and we mosey’d to the Highland Creek Golf Club parking lot (using the cross walk across Highland Creek Parkway for safety) to start the cycle.
WARMARAMA
- SSH x20
- Hill Billies x15
- Mountain Climber x15
- Windmill x15
- Merkinsx10
THE THANG
After the warmup we counted off by 4’s to get into groups and moved to the lower end of the parking lot where a course was set up incorporating the following exercises:
- 20 Merkins
- Lunge and rotation to the 1st cone
- Burpee Broad Jump to the 2nd cone
- Google Bun Shapers to the 3rd cone
- 20 WWII sit ups
- Run back to the putting green
Each cycle started with a putting challenge. An uphill 8-foot putt would determine if the team would go through the cycle or incur the detour for missing the putt. The detour consisted of running to the cart area by the golf club, doing 10 burpees then proceeding up the stairs to complete the above exercises. The teams continued through this cycle until time was up and we headed back to Mary (again using the cross walk across Highland Creek Parkway for safety).
MARY
- Hello Dolly x15
- Pretzel Crunch with flapjack x15
- Box cutter x15
- Mason Twist x15

MOLESKIN:
- Another beatdown concept that is a work in progress using something besides tennis balls. Wanted to use the golf course parking lot and throw in a twist with the putting. Think this will be a better idea when it is warmer and light in the morning. The LED guidance lights were kind of blinding and the pressure to perform took its’ toll.
- Putting results showed why none of the PAX is on the PGA tour. No one made the 8-foot putt. When the distance was shortened to 2 feet FNG @Mr. Big made it but this was after @Nanny missed from the same distance sending our group on the burpee detail once again.
- Welcome to FNG @Mr. Big! #1 decided to name him in his inaugural post after the villain from the Roger Moore James Bond movie Live and Let Die – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myc6HpJzgaU

Nice work @Brinkley. It was about time that someone added golf to a beatdown list that already included archery, boxing, football, crab soccer, and fetch(!). It was a fun and challenging workout. Even @Gump didn’t have any audible complaints.
Welcome @Mr. Big AKA Kananga
Don’t forget Alcatraz’s “Dodge the bag of marsh mellows” beatdown.
And @Murdock’s air pistol shooting challenge at Mallard Creek Park. The PAX did about as well with that one.
I think @Alcatraz’s Bamboozled/Evil Jelly Bean challenge might have been the weirdest one we ever did, but I don’t think that qualifies as a sport under any circumstances.
Inquiring minds want to know @disaster and @alcatraz. What is the bamboozled/ jelly bean challenge?
