You Kin Reed Good Two
All All MECA BackblastsMay 23rd, 2017
Sixteen men showed up at Highland Creek Elementary this morning to brave a forecast of powerful thunderstorms only to face a light drizzle instead. I had planned an elaborate relay race to honor the return of @Gump to one of my beatdowns but the threat of rain caused me to scramble for a replacement instead. Fortunately there was a bag of ping pong balls left over from this January to solve the dilemma. After @Gump finally finished talking at 5:31 AM I was able to insert a quick disclaimer and the PAX was off, just seconds before @Google and @Number One had a chance to pull into the parking lot. Here’s how it all went down.

THE THANG
The PAX made their way over to the sheltered area in front of Ridge Road Middle School where @Pavarotti was relieved to see that my standard step ladder with pre-printed weinke was in place. (It’s always a good idea to verify that your weinke is in place just in case). The PAX was instructed to take turns pulling numbered ping pong balls from a bag and then perform the corresponding exercises as a group as follows:
- 10 Burpees
- 15 Partner Declined Merkins
- 20 Carolina Dry Docks
- 25 Imperial Storm Troopers
- 25 Monkey Humpers
- 30 Merkins
- 30 Lunges
- 40 Squats
- 40 Reverse Crunch
- 50 Mountain Climbers
- 50 Freddy Mercury’s
- 50 Little Baby Crunch
- Black Ball of Doom – One Full Lap around the Parking Lot (about 1/8 of a mile)
The fun proceeded until 6:10 AM and the PAX returned to the main parking lot for MARRY.

MOLESKIN
- Today’s backblast title comes from a hilarious exchange at the start of the beatdown: @Gump (squinting at the small print on today’s pre-printed weinke) “How can you even tell what that says?” @Shazam (shrugging shoulders) “Um….cause I can read?”. This led to an assortment of reading related jokes at @Gump’s expense throughout the rest of the workout. I considered making a joke about the Marines but was worried that @Gump would threaten to send me to Q school so I resisted the temptation.
- Those of us under the shelter managed to stay relatively dry throughout the workout, only to get soaked when we hit the pavement for Marry with about two minutes to go. #nofavorstoday
- According to modern statistics we should have had an even chance of picking each ping pong ball (about 7.7%, although @Drop Cloth already knew that). But #7 and #8 seemed to keep coming up, resulting in a painful amount of leg work today. #6 was not pulled once until the ‘Q’ used his psychic powers to mentally pull it at the end of the beatdown. Not as much upper body work as I had hoped, but the legs and abs got it pretty good this morning. Those PAX that were not satisfied are welcome to do a few merkins on their own later today.
- Just a reminder that the Cruise is still running every Wednesday morning from HCES at 530AM. Feel free to drop by for plenty of 1st and 2nd F with your brothers. All skill levels are welcome.
- Davis Lake Two Year Anniversary is this Saturday at 7AM. Check the daily email for details.
- A question arose about who is managing the Sign-Up Genius in @Colonel Mustard’s absence. We have about five weeks of completed beatdowns that need to be cleaned off of the schedule if anyone is interested or knows how to do such a thing.
Great job by the PAX this morning. Thanks to everyone who braved the dismal weather report and came out to join us today. As always, it is an honor to serve you men. Please sign up to ‘Q’ if you haven’t done so in a while. If I can do this anyone can.

Enjoyed the beatdown this morning even with the uneven distribution of exercises. After not getting a run in I felt obligated to pull the black ball the second time around in honor of @Harding.
Interesting on the timing about the Sign Up Genius. Colonel just sent me the codes last night. It’s clean!
@Disaster, solid beat-down and always enjoyable commentary by the entire pax. At times it felt like we did 80 straight squats… it’s always crazy when running a loop feels like relief.
