Five men refused to allow heavy rains, fallen trees, caution tape, and flooded pathways to stop them from honoring the memory of Michael Patrick Murphy through the running of “The Murph” at Highland Creek Sports Club today. The first sign of trouble came as the PAX were greeted with the sight of a fallen tree as they pulled into the parking lot. Further investigation revealed caution tape stretched across the bridge to the playground where an additional tree had fallen. Undeterred, YHC, @Slappy, and Murph-rookie @Help Desk took off up Clarke Creek Parkway and were quickly joined by the late arriving @Google and @Bling. Here’s how it all went down:

• One Mile Run
• 10 pullups
• 20 merkins
• 30 squats
• Repeat exercise regimen ten times
• One Mile Run

The rain had slowed down to a steady drizzle by the time we started, but the playground was completely flooded. After carefully navigating through the caution tape and along the beams beside floating pools of mulch, the PAX managed to adapt to the conditions as well as possible. The threat of falling into bottomless puddles and disappearing forever made the beatdown seem a little more severe than usual. Fortunately all of PAX were accounted for by the end of the day. @Google and @Bling tacked a little extra distance onto their second mile, continuing past the cul-de-sac and down Mill Stream Ridge’s legendary hill. After roughly 0.1 seconds of careful thought, YHC and @Slappy decided to stick to the traditional 1 mile route. MARRY was on your own and a lot wetter than usual.

Nice effort by the PAX today to brave the elements for a tough beatdown. We had some excellent conversation regarding Scouting and the movie “Brian’s Song”. Anyone who has not seen this movie (the original 1971 version with Billy Dee Williams and James Caan) should rectify this shortcoming immediately. It is one of only three movies where men are allowed to cry (the other two being “Old Yeller” and “Shane”). Your ‘M’ might even be moved by your sensitivity, who knows?
