And now for plan B

All All MECA Backblasts

April 6th, 2017 By Sugar

7 Men joined YHC, or rather YHC joined 7 Men showing up at 0530 on the dot to have some fun and take our DRP! #perfecttimning  As is recently the deal we got jipped again as the rain quit right before we started however, things were still pretty wet – even the HRMS field!

I’d been planning this for a while, this being a pure rendition of Touchdown Beatdown.  When I say pure, I mean in the sense of form as the acclaimed Touchdown Beatdown is usually a cheaters paradise (no offense to the champs whose names are on the coveted football) as it is quite customary to witness Metro Beak Dippers instead of legit Squats and Merkins. (That’s right, I said MERKINS not ‘Mericans’ – look it up #exercon)  Or ‘Neck Crunches’ instead of LBCs. Anyway, this rendition would not be done in a rush but together either in cadence or single count with the focus being on full travel through all exercises.

Soooooo, YHC opened the car door while spewing a disclaimer ending with a ‘follow me’ and we were off to the Old School to get wet!  After a bit of complaining, something about “Hey the cruise was yesterday. blah, blah, blah”, we stopped under the Interrogation Street Lamp for some good ol warmerama – the usual stuff with some ISTs thrown in just because – and then off to the field!!

You could hear the concern in the low mumblechatter as YHC ran on to the field, squishing with every step.  I didn’t wear the old shoes for nothing – lets have some fun!

The Thang

Focus being on full travel of exercises, every 10 yards (which we had to guess at as the field was set up for kicky ball, lame) –

Bear Crawl

10 Carolina ‘Head Touch’ Dry docks

20 Hand Release Merkins

30 Ankle Tap Squats

40 Knee Touch Lunges

50 LBCs Elbows to Knees

Back down to finish out at other end.

Well that was the plan, but, somewhere along the way we lost a few, shall we say, ‘Nancys’ as they snuck out onto the running track to stay dry without YHC noticing.  Now, not realizing why anyone in their right mind would not want to take advantage of (or should I be as bold to say ‘appreciate’) this gift of a CSAUP event the Sky Q had given us on this awesome morning??!!  Retribution was in order!

Plan B

Now, I’m not gonna lie.  From here on out it was all a blur with only one goal in mind: Hard and Fast!  Squats, Monkey Humpers, Burpees, Run and repeat.  Peoples chair, BTW, lunges, BTW, Squats, BTW, Monkey Humpers, Burpees, etc, etc etc.  Thankfully the ‘lights were on at the gas station’ so time to head back. Indian run stopping to do a bit of rail work Derkin/Incline Merkin style and then head back to base.  We did stop along the way at the Rock Pile Memorial to do some overhead air presses from the Iron Cross position, in memory of our departed rocks. (sniff, sniff) #sadmoment

Time for Mary and of course I thought it would be fitting to treat the PAX to one of the few dry areas there was under the entrance overhang.  LBCs, pretzel stick, Freddie Mercury’s, Superman banana and capped it off with J-los and a time killer elbow plank.  Recover, Recover.

Moleskin:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Something new is learned every time I Q.  If you haven’t Q’d yet, you’re cheating yourself from a learning experience. (although most in attendance today have Q’d)  Today’s lesson:  If what you’ve planned ain’t workin’ ditch it and do something else.  And BTW, it wasn’t the fact that the track was chosen over the field, that wasn’t the failure. It was the fact that what we were doing really wasn’t that tough or interesting.  That said, don’t be afraid to try new things and don’t be afraid for them to fail.  Absolutely be afraid of not recognizing the failure and not learning from it.

Thanks for playing along, brothers!  Hope you didn’t mind getting a bit wet and dirty!

Speaking of which, Mud Run.  Looks like we only need about 3 more for 2 teams!  HCs so far are, Jimmy B, Sparknut, Marie, Ty Webb, Sugar.  Lets put those fancy new RS Shirts to good use!

Go get ’em Whatley!! And try not to suck! 😉

  1. Aye!! Good work today fellas!

  2. No excuses, just overslept. Glad to see we have at least one team for the Mud Run.

Making sure to go to bed early tonight- see you at Bell Buster tomorrow.

  3. Aye!! Solid work, gang!!! Sounds like you had a great Q, Sugar! Thanks for the entertaining BB to boot!

  4. As soon as Sugar ran through the easily avoidable puddle without hesitation, I had a bad feeling about what was to come. Once I got over the wetness (I think that took 1 carolina “dry” dock), it was actually enjoyable.

Note: I am NOT HC for the mud run. Highly doubtful I will be available that weekend.

  5. Always a challenge with you at the Q, Sugar.

I swear you could end droughts by signing up to Q. It is soaking wet or raining outside every time you lead, and you seem to delight in it always:)

Solid words on fear of failure and changing things up.
