Ruckapalooza – First Edition

All CSAUP Backblasts

February 6th, 2017 By Sugar

Do you like doing crazy stuff?  Do you like walking long distances cross-country over privately owned easements of public utilities?  Do you like craft beer?  With all those targets out there you’ve gotta be interested in at least one!

Announcing the first Official MeCa Ruck event – Ruckapalooza!!!!

What is it?  Ruckapalooza is a 5-ish mile ruck cross country.

When is it?  02.11.17 at 1800 (6PM for the non GMT time tellers)

Where in the world is it?  Here’s the best part!  Ruckapalooza will depart from 26 Acres Brewery for a Rucking loop.  We expect to return better men at around 1930-2000 depending on how many ‘painstations’ we feel like throwing in (or if we get lost – like that’s even possible)!

I don’t have a Ruck, can I still tag along?  Absolutely!  Improvise!  ‘Borrow’ your 2.0s back pack and drop a kettle bell or a few bricks in there and do it!  Of course non-ruck carrying PAX are welcome too!  Headlamps/hand torches recommended.

Like any other F3 event this will take place rain or shine!  Following our crazy heavy-stuff carrying outing we will enjoy some very good craft beer and some great F2!  Ms are of course welcome at this time as I’m sure they’ll want to hear the countless re-hashing of Ruckapalooza!!

  1. I’m in! I’ll even ruck before the beer as well.

    1. You mean beer before the Ruck as well?? 🙂

  2. HC for a ruckin good time

  3. Let’s do it! Verbal HCs:
    Sugar
    Bos
    Chowder
    Gamma
    Segundo
    Kojak

  4. I’m in.

  5. Asking for a friend 🙂

Is this mostly flat ground for trail or running shoes, or would we need to break out hiking boots?

Is it all dry land or does it entail crossing the Rocky River?

Basically, besides head lamp, flashlight, and possibly a weighted backpack, any other recommendations (besides beer money)?

    1. Make sure to let your friend know:
      – There will be elevation changes but nothing drastic and he will get dirty and get his feet wet. We’re following sewer/power lines, a ‘trail’ is not guaranteed.
      – Opinion on shoes are like…. well you know how the saying goes. You see everything from running shoes to trail shoes to full out Mil-Spec boots. Most common advice I’ve heard is make sure they drain water well. Some guys wear shorts, I prefer pants. You know, so as not to scratch up my purdy legs. 🙂 (and I don’t like poison ivy)
      – Gloves are recommended – same as he’d wear for a workout.
      – He should also be prepared to have an awesome time!

  6. HC. I am going to try this out. Will see if I have a dumbbell at home still… don’t think I want to drop in my 25lb kettlebell on the first time :-). I see an interesting path around the wetlands… 1 mile will be piece of cake since it will be on the Christenbury nature trail from what I can tell, though crossing of the Rocky River will be interesting… if I remember, it has pretty high banks in that area.
