Really, I promise I don’t like Burpees

All All MECA Backblasts

December 15th, 2016 By Sugar

13 Men of Rolling Stone scraped their frosty windshields and made their way to take the Daily Red Pill.

Warm o rama:

SSH x 21, Windmils (high speed), Mountain Climbers, Merkins (slow to show non-conFORMing PAX what a full Merkin feels like), Cotton Pickers.

Indian Run (2 burpee special for last guy) to the shelter on the Greenway with 5 Burpee Toll each time crossing a bridge.

The Thang:

I had actually thought about some log work but seeing the big turnout made me re-think that.  It would have gone something like this: a bunch of PAX standing around waiting to be lead while YHC scratched his head trying to figure out how 13 Men would carry 3 logs that are a bit too short.  Sooooo how about some ladder work??!!  Always a good stand by for the ‘wing it’ type of Q (guilty as charged).  10 to 1 ladder, Diamond Merkins at the shelter and Squats on the other side of the bridge should do it!  BUT –  YHC actually forgot about the Burpee Toll and…..rules are rules! So, 5 Burpees every time you cross the bridge (yeah that’s right, Diamond Merkin, 5 Burpees, Squats, 5 Burpees, etc,etc etsucks!)  Now I’m no Pythagorus (although I have used his theory a time or two) but I can pull some quick math out of my arse when needed.  I quickly realized that we were about to do a whole bunch of Burpees.  Those of you who’ve bothered to read my backblasts and comments know my feelings regarding the Burpee.  One of the most over-used, go to exercises that exemplifies lack of creativity (e.g. The Bear 2015 our neighboring region’s PAX pain stations). But, as I said, rules is rules and creativity be damned!  Ready, set, Gump!

Indian Run back to WROE trading Bear Crawl for Tolls on the last bridge.  Jail break back for Mary!

Mary:

Pretzel Crunch

Homer to Marge combo

Moleskin:

Thanks for following my lead today, it was obvious that everyone pushed hard.  Mary was a bit short but I wanted to take some time at the end to mention the F3 Mission.  That and the Core Principles can be found HERE.  I wanted to make sure that our newer PAX (and maybe some of us older ones – good to be reminded) realize what we’re doing here.  I believe it’s important we remember that it’s not just about the workout (although that is beneficial of course) but the real purpose can be found in what we call ourselves: Fitness, Fellowship and Faith.  As has been said “A fit and friended man looks outward with purpose to impact those around him.”.  Meaning he believes in something greater than himself and is driven to help others.  Like in workouts, we’re all at different levels on our path to become a High Impact Man. (Not even sure if I’m a low impact man yet!!)  The important thing is to keep posting and share it!

If you’ve not read Freed To Lead yet, you should.  If you want to start Qing, let me know.  If you feel the initiative to do something within the community, go for it!    Just like doing over 100 Burpees in 30 degree weather, you wont be alone!

  1. Johnny Bruscos tonight!! More fun than 100 Burpees in the cold!!

  2. Literally every time I get home after workout:
    Wife: How was it?
    Me: Awful.
Wife: So why do you keep going back?
Me: Motivation, accountability, and a great group of guys.

  3. Well said JB. Love paying the toll. Next time we relay the logs back and forth across the bridge!

  4. Yep, I could stay home and not be challenged…so always glad when the Q brings the pain. Good one, Sugar, and thanks to Ty Webb for the push this morning.

    Until next time.

  5. Great work today Sugar. Definitely a bit behind on my fitness for boot camps but loved the challenge. I’m out until next year but looking forward to seeing everyone in the new year!
