Red Light, Green Light…Stop Already!
All All MECA BackblastsApril 7th, 2016
Today’s ‘Q’ proved that he has the maturity of a six year old child along with the knees of a seventy five year old grandmother. At 4AM the rain was coming down in buckets and YHC was worried that he might have to call an audible on his plans for today’s beatdown. But fortunately the skies cleared and we ended up with a slightly cool (and windy) day at kickoff. @Conchito still showed up in full winter gear and toboggan just in case the weather took a turn for the worse. 13 men stepped up to the challenge, and after @Gump made his obligatory “I thought the Cruise was on Wednesday” joke, we were off. A quick lap around the upper parking lot included cone weaves, backwards run, and high knee step ups.

THE MAIN EVENT
The PAX were divided into two groups for an extended Indian Run around the Elementary and Middle School campuses. The run included a token Merican at the back of the line before a sprint to the front. As an added twist, YHC explained that the run would feature components from the classic children’s game “red light, green light”. Any time the ‘Q’ called “red light” the entire PAX would stop and drop down for five burpees. Upon completion, the ‘Q’ would call “green light” and the group would get back in line to continue the run. As an added bonus, YHC quickly learned that “red light” served as the elusive mute button for @Gump that we have all been searching for. Upon hearing any excessive mumble chatter or complaining a quick “red light” would immediately quiet him down. (Feel free to try it out for yourself during future beatdowns!)
The PAX made a few stops along the way for some extra work as well:
- Guardrail at Shelley Avenue – 20 inclined mericans, 15 dips, 10 declined mericans
2. Grassy hill on Street Avenue behind the track – 10 to 1 ladder with basketball jump squats at the top and WW2 sit ups at the bottom. Bear crawl up the hill for the first five, Quadraphilia up the hill for the last five
3. Paved hill leading down to the Middle School – teams of three, partner one does LBC at the bottom, partner two does lunges at the top, partner three runs, rotate through two times

- Let me know if I missed anybody in the PAX today. For some reason I thought we had 15 men, but my final count only showed 13. Could be I’m just getting forgetful in my old age.
2. #T-Claps to the Greatest Generation, I think we had six 50+ men in the PAX today. Plus @Gump runs like he’s 50 so that’s basically half of us. There was a lot of ‘respect’ going around the COT this morning.
3. Welcome back to @Number One. Glad to see you posting again
4. Thanks to @Hammer for sharing about his friend who recently suffered a heart attack. Gentlemen visit your doctor regularly. There’s no reason not to get a checkup at least once a year. We’re all getting older, like it or not. And you owe it to your family to stay healthy.
5. From @Sully, the Charlotte Aviation Museum will be hosting its Community Day this Saturday, April 9 from 10AM – 5PM. Admission is free so bring your kids. Lots to see there. @Sully will be making an appearance from 1PM-4PM to share his story of being part of “The Miracle on the Hudson”
6. Speaking of Saturday, don’t forget F3 dads at Davis Lake at 9AM. Dress warmly!
7. For anyone not participating in the Mud Run, The Tunnel to Towers Tower Climb will be held at the Duke Energy Center downtown on Saturday, April 30 at 8AM. It is a fifty-story stair climb that helps to raise money for injured service members. Registration is $40, Check out the website when you get a chance.

In case I was being too hard on @Gump, I should point out that (a) he was my first ‘Q’ (b) he gave me my nickname, and (c) he convinced me that I could post on weekdays and still make it to work on time. So without his efforts I might not even be in F3 today. And chances are I’m not the only one. Well done.
Great Q today @disaster. I thought there for a minute you were getting ready to really screw the Q up but it ended up being fairly good. TClaps on coming out during the weekdays and sticking with it.
I will get my 48 year old legs back hopefully before I’m 49!
