A Blustery Ladder Day
All All MECA BackblastsApril 5th, 2016
YHC showed up exactly as planned: 0529, plant the flag, call it and disclaimer. Hit ‘em hard and fast then mosey to the teacher lot for a bit of a warm up. Stranglers were abound as if we never begin a workout at 0530, however, the workout waits for no one………
- Warm-up:
- SSHx20
- Cotton Pickers x 20
- Mountain Climbers x 20
- Tempo Merkins x 10
- Wind Mills x 15
- Prisoner Squats x 15
At this point YHC instructed the PAX to count off by 2s. Really for no apparent reason other than there may be an opportunity to utilize divided ranks (and it’s kinda fun to watch). I should say that the PAX at least tried to count off by 2s. A simple oversight by the Q expecting the combination of @Sparknut and @Palin to carry out this particular instruction lead to a few restarts.
The Thang:
Round 1
- Parking space ladder work:
- Pick a line, any line. 1 to 10 ladder, Merkins/Squats
- Run to top of space – 1 merkin
- Backpedal to end off line run to top of space on other side of the line – 1 Squat
- Repeato to 10
Who’d a thought counting to 10 was so difficult? That’s my assumption for the lack of Mumble chatter from the PAX. Really hope it wasn’t due to fatigue as we really were just getting started.
Round 2
What would a @Sugar beatdown be without s few Bear Crawls? Not sure why I love ‘em? Maybe I just like the reaction from the PAX!
1-10 CDD/WWII site us with Bear Crawl/Crab walk.
From center of parking lot Bear crawl to edge of parking lot – 10 CDDs, Crab-walk back – 1 WWII sit up. Complete ladder. Really surprised at this point nobody’s questioning the whole count off by 2 thing?? Of course Bear Crawls are a pretty decent distraction – off to the ball courts for round 3!
Round 3
Burpee/Merkin 4 line suicide ladder with Groucho walk and backpedal
Groucho walk (after a brief demo of the Groucho walk) to mid court – 4 Burpees, Backpedal back – 1 Merkin
Complete ladder/ suicides. Peoples chair when finished and wait for 6 to finish.
Back to Teacher lot to finish what we started, Parking space ladder work starting at 10 down to 1. Crowd pleaser for sure. At this point the count off by 2 thing is way forgotten but YHC has decided that if confronted I’ll respond with something impressive like “since we had an odd number of PAX I modified on the fly”. (Not sure they’d have bought it as I’m not really known for my workout planning skills – more of a ‘wing it’ kind of guy.)
Mary
LBCs x 20
- Pretzel stick x 10
- Homer to marge with a bit of Rosalita thrown in
- At this point I was feeling a bit sorry for the harsh beat down and the strong Mary so feeling charitable I thought I’d open the last Mary exercise to anyone who’d volunteer saving them from what I had in mind…………………….Yeah, nobody was quick enough:
- J-Los x 10.
Moleskin:
- What an awesome morning! A bit breezy but temps were perfect! I usually try to do some creative crap that sometimes flops so today I wanted to just do a good old fashioned simple beat down. Thanks to everyone for following my lead, I hope you enjoyed it
- Good to see some guys back out there and double digits!
- @Hummer, nice to have you out and Komer (spelling?), happy to have you at Rolling Stone.
Annoucements:
- The Shield tonight at @Grinder’s house, 548 Fairwoods Drive in the Skybrook. HDHH at 730, Shield at 8.
- RS Cruise tomorrow – great way to pick up one more day a week!
- First regular RS F2 event, Pizza Night. Next Thursday at Johnny Brusco’s
- Need some fresh Qs! Sign up!

Not a bad day – had fun and hope everyone else did as well! Thanks again for following my lead!
@Sugar, great Q. I can only speak for myself, but my memory capacity is one instruction at a time – count off, stand on this line, count to 10, count down to 1, etc. Once told to stand on a line, I forget what number I was, or even if I had a number. I also discovered that crab walk actually makes me look forward to doing the bear crawl.
Yep! That’s the key to embracing the Bear Crawl…..it could always be worse!
