A Cold Distance
All All MECA BackblastsFebruary 15th, 2016
6 pax for a cold weather running of #TheDistance.
The Thang:
- Gather @ HCES to access the pro’s & con’s of each persons winter weather clothing choices and then head for Skybrook.
- Out and back route w/ a slight mod to ensure a 9 mi round trip for the long group and 3 mi out and back for the less long group for a 6 mi trip.
- One Palmetto man put in an extra to get his 10.
The Naked Moleskin:
- 6:30 roll call showed us two HC’s short of a full house. Where is Ryan? Here he comes. Where is Bling? Bling?
- Each week that we head into the recesses of Skybrook we make it a bit further. This time we picked what we hoped was the “flat” choice. It wasn’t. And it petered out early on us. No worries, a little ad hoc route modification on the way home and we were good to go.
- Ironhide’s trick Achilles was acting up and Snare’s mileage base called for a 6 miler, so those two guys made a good pair. Filibuster wanted 10, YHC wanted 9, Goldfinger was probably good for 12, and Chowder will run as far as anyone else. So we ended up with a 4.5 out and back + 1 mi firehouse loop for Fili.
- Lots of full face gear this morning. YHC took some verbal abuse when I ditched the fleece and shivered my way to the start line in a tee + LS tee. I think all apparel choices worked out. I know my body heats up like a furnace after about 0.5 mi so I was good. We all agreed that wind would have made for a very different experience.
- Ryan Medas had his 2 1/2 post this morning so he earned his nickname. Medas –> Midas –> Midas touch –> Goldfinger. Welcome to the Highlands Pax my friend.

Always good to get those really cold weather runs behind you so that mentally you realize it aint no big thang. 20 or 40…body warms up the same.
@Filibuster Enjoyed our chat re: merits and functioning of pensions, theory of how to manage emergency funds, and the info on the great return policy from Runners Warehouse.
@Chowder T-claps on your continued persistence in running to and from workouts. I was sure happy to be getting in my car yesterday to go home. Even with severe tempting/taunting from me, you held the line and ran home. #Respect.
@Snare Awesome seeing your consistent presence out there now that you are a HC for BRR. Great to have you in the mix. Enjoyed our jog down memory lane during the Snare Dare discussion.
