My Mother-In-Law Can Beat Up Your Mother-In-Law
All All MECA BackblastsNovember 5th, 2015
18 gathered in the gloom for a pugilistic downPAINment. YHC was reminded by the squats with punches during last Thursday’s guest Q of the boxing lessons purchased by his mother-in-law a few Christmases ago. One can only assume she thought YHC was a little too soft to be raising her granddaughters and told the instructor not to hold back. From those painful memories a new beatdown was born. And as a bonus, it was also #ScooterFriendly for the injured, but unrelenting @Ironhide.
For those of you unfamiliar with G.L.O.W. from the 80s, here is a video clip as evidence that my mother-in-law can take down yours – My Mother-In-Law was Mt. Fuji. She now trains girls at a MMA gym in south Charlotte. She’s no joke!
As the PAX gathered, much was made about the appearance of @Bunny and it was great to have @BOS as well. Shovel flag planted, disclaimer given and the PAX dropped for 10 Merkins in celebration of #Merkvember2015.
WARMARAMA:
Mosey to the MS parking lot and circled up 19 x SSH
YHC knew time was of the essence so the PAX transitioned into demonstrating the exercises at each of the three stations.
Station 1 – Circle up for the following…
- 10 x Squats with punches
- 10 x WW2 Sit-ups with punches
- 10 x Merkins with punches
Station 2 – Caution tape was tied between a light pole that was the home of a really cool spider and a street sign about 15 feet away. The PAX formed a line to step/duck under the tape and deliver an uppercut on the way up. Repeating the motion back and forth towards the spider/light pole. While waiting, the PAX was to keep their hands up, elbows in and get their boxing bounce going.
Station 3 – The PAX formed a line facing the MS. A heavy bag was before them for a little ground and pound. The men took turns running to the bag and delivered 5 elbows each arm. While in line, the PAX performed a Muay Thai Clinch Knee Combination until it was their turn to rain down blows.
THE THANG:
The PAX performed 9 rounds with 3 rotations at each of the 3 stations starting with station 3 for 3 minutes each round. It really wasn’t as #Chowderized as it sounds, but YHC readily admits that’s a lot of 3’s! The standard 1 minute between rounds was given to rotate to the next station.
MARY:
- 15 x Low Flutter
COT and BOM!
THE NMM:
- Great work out there today men. The PAX got faster at Station 1 each rotation! It is a lot harder than you think to keep your hands up and move for 3 minutes. Imagine what it’s like when someone is hitting you while your doing it! #RespectThePugilists
- Welcome @MinniePearl! A slight breach of naming protocol was necessary as @MinniePearl has cast his lot with the @Derby and @Chavez early exodus. Tclaps to @Gump for setting that up in between rounds.
- Speaking of @Gump – as a firetruck rolled through the parking lot, can you guess who was the first member of the PAX to selflessly stop exercising to spread F3 goodwill and offer assistance to the brave firefighters? After @Gump’s chitchat session, the PAX learned there was a call about a natural gas leak. In a group of 18 men, there is bound to be some natural gas leakage. However, it was determined the firefighters were in search of the kind Piedmont Natural Gas sells.
- YHC has named the spider, Mikey T, because he will bite you in the ear!
- As the weather gets colder and some of the PAX find their gloves not compatible with touchscreen phones, remember this tip. One’s nose is rarely covered and can be used to unlock, enter codes and start an interval timer app. @TheNanny seemed most excited about this revelation.
- Truth be told. YHC’s mother-in-law DID give boxing lessons as a Christmas present. However, she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen, not the wrestler, Mt. Fiji. She has never been interested in wrestling or MMA, but I still have no desire to make her angry!
- If you’re counting for #Merkvember2015, you had the opportunity to complete 75 Merkins. But it’s not too late to HC for a challenge to perform an unnatural amount of Merkins in one month. YHC also challenges you to let Merkins be a trigger that reminds you to pray for those who have gone or are going through men’s health issues. Nice job by the PAX to shout out the name of family/friends during the BOM.
Always an honor to lead the PAX!

@Alcatraz, sadly I completely bought the story about your Mother-in-Law being Mount Fuji. Even worse, I actually remember GLOW from the 1980’s. Not too much on TV back in those days.
Thanks for the workout. Good to know I can still get my a$$ kicked even when there’s no opponent in the ring. I think I’ll turn down any future boxing lessons.
That was like the 7th “F”…. Fun! Is that ok to say in f3? I doubt it, but it really was a nice escape from the traditional beatdown and a heck of a beatdown nonetheless. Thanks for the planning and execution @alcatraz. Well played.
always enjoy your backblasts. The beatdown, for a themed workout, was not bad at all.
Epic backblast @Alcatraz. Sorry I missed this beatdown, sounds like an absolute blast!
I just read this and just tried unlocking my phone with my nose…I’m with The Nanny on this one. Awesome!
