Operation Overlord – Remembering D-Day…
All Afton BackblastsJune 6th, 2020
Afton Iron Q week 1 is in the book. It was #6 to close out YHC’s 1st ever full week of Q’s. It had special meaning for a couple easons… it landed on an important day in American history and it was the 1st Saturday YHC has ever Q’ed at Afton. It was obvious from the get go that the pax were eager to get after it on this hot June morning. We had 8 runners and 2 ruckers for the 6am pre-work.
In total, there were 14 men that joined in the remembrance of Operation Overlord (also known as D-Day), which occurred on June 6, 1944. Over 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch with 5,000+ ships and landing craft carrying troops and supplies and 11,000+ aircraft providing air cover and support. Over 4,000 allied forces lost their lives that day. We made 5 stops during the beatdown, 1 for each of the 5 beaches… Utah, Omaha, Sword, Gold, Juno
It went something like this…
