A warm Comanche welcome to our first strength focused workout – IRON THUNDER
All Comanche BackblastsAugust 30th, 2017
Part 2 of the fallout from Hammers Happy Hour kicked in as 12 Comanche Warriors posted for the inaugural Iron Thunder Strength Workout. I have personally always liked going to the Tradition Iron Fist workout but that was back before BuckWheat turned into a rabbit and used to Q there.
The humble QIC arrived early and turned the Mary Lot into a small gym courtesy of weights from his home workout room and placards describing each exercise. (I knew I would eventually see all of those weights that I bought for my M and kids put to use!) A couple of Pax commented on using 10 lb, 15 lb and 20 lb weights but it was stressed that reps and proper form will turn any weight into a good workout!
Ace Ventura provided some lively lifting music and I don’t know whether he was trying to limit his reps but he kept on having to “adjust” the music in the middle of a station. Even so there was some good old heavy rock for the Pax to enjoy. Ace also soft committed to creating a Iron Thunder play list for future workouts! With tunes pumping the pax set off to pumping Iron.

After a brief review of the exercises (along with demo and proper form and technique) we started on a 1 Minute Rotation of each exercise. All exercises were AMRAP and after just a few stations I think most of the PAX was pleased that we weren’t using heavier weights. The two arm curls, 4 position “Reed Curls” were killers and as I looked around I saw a lot of Pax pacing themselves. One minute is a long time when continuously working the same area!! Like many others I found myself looking forward to the non-weight stations of Merkins, Plank and Jump rope, etc. Speaking of Jump rope I think Mr. McFeeley actually got his feet off the ground once!!
It was interesting to see how the different Pax interpreted with “Users Choice” station and the 30 lb Kettle Bell stationed there. I believe I saw one pax performing a modified Airborn Mind Bender holding the bell up!
Q was initially intending upon 7 mins of Mary but really wanted to get two full rotations of all stations so Mary was cancelled.
Stations were, in order, (from my starting point):
- 15 lb Left Arm Curl
- Strength Rope Swing
- 15 lb Right Arm Curl
- Al Gore’s Holding 10 lb ball
- 2 Arm Curls (30 lb)
- Merkins
- Wide Bar Arm Raises
- Squats with 10 lb Should Press weights
- 25 lb Overhead Tricep Extensions
- 25 lb Plate (or 40 lb Kettle Ball) Chest Press
- 15 lb (or 30 lb) Kettle Ball Swing
- 20 lb 4 Position “Reed Curl” – Combo of Curls and Presses both up and down
- Jump Rope
- Plank
- Users Choice with 40 lb Kettle Bell
- 25 lb Bent Chest Raise (Rows)

- Don’t be shy – it would be good to see more comments on the Back Blasts. Either Slack or Meca!
- Oboe will be hosting the Comanche Happy Hour on Thursday @ 7:30
- Thanks to those of you that brought additional Kettle Bells!
- Missed Sizzlean, Ranger and Depth Charge.
- For those Pax nursing leg injuries — No reason not to come out for this workout!
- Keep those in Houston in your prayers as the deal with historic flooding!
