Touchdown Beatdown – Nanny Knows Best

All All MECA Backblasts

February 21st, 2017 By Alcatraz

20 men emerged from the dark recesses of the neighborhood to engage in what would be the loudest and most disruptive Touchdown Beatdown to date.  YHC was surprised to find an amplified speaker in one of the closets of the church and the inner monologue began – “This is going to be way louder than anything we’ve ever used before!  So excited!”  So with YHC’s inner monologue cheering on the PAX – a flag was planted, war paint applied, disclaimer given and a mosey began to…

WARMARAMA:

Instructions were given for the Touchdown Beatdown and the PAX lined up for the scream from Drowning Pool to begin.  YHC’s inner monologue said – “It needs to be loud to motivate the PAX!”  And it was so and YHC’s inner monologue declared it was very good.

As the harmonic sounds of screams, drums and guitar riffs filled morning air the PAX began 30 minutes of the Touchdown Beatdown…

During the first cycle YHC’s inner monolgue said “This speaker is great.  Why haven’t we used it before?  But could it be a little too loud?  Nahhhhhh.  It’s perfect”

During the second cycle @Nanny says, “Do you think we should turn it down?”  YHC at that time still confident in the wisdom of the inner monologue replied, “I think we’re good”.  However, doubts began to creep into the inner monologue.  As a flood light was noticed on the back of one of the closest homes, the inner monologue was extremely chatty throughout the second cycle and into the third…

As YHC finished the third cycle to run back and begin the fourth, green lights were flashing at the other end of the bus lot.  @Nanny could be seen making his way to reduce the volume and the green lights drove off without any flogging or arrests made.  The inner monologue said, “Well that could have been worse.  Dang it, that @Nanny was right.”

The inner monologue quieted as the music mellowed and YHC became more in tune with the muscle fatigue that was setting it.  Mercifully the Hallelujah Chorus sounded and the inner monologue stopped.

Finishing distances recorded and a mosey began to…

COT, Trophy Presentation and BOM!

THE PIGSKIN MOLESK!N:

  1. Great work by the PAX today!  Didn’t feel much like a February morning, but war paint and temps in the 20s probably wouldn’t be the best combination.  Good to get a sweat going.  Finishing distances will be compiled and posted in a separate backblast.
  2. Congratulations @Hugo!  You become the third man to etch his name on the trophy.  Feel free to add some air to the football as it seems @Thorn is a fan of Deflategate.
  3. It needs to be mentioned that YHC didn’t declare a winner at the inaugural beatdown and @KoolAid took first place prior to the introduction of the signed football.
  4. Strong push to start by @Disaster and @Brinkley who appeared to swap the lead position before @Hugo took the lead to stay.  It did not go unnoticed @KoolAid is still faster than most while limping.
  5. RED Friday workout at Highlands this week!
  6. If any hears of the neighbor who was awakened this morning, please let YHC know.  Feel free to do some recon on Facebook, Twitter, NextDoor or whatever.  F3 should be the best neighbor and should we learn who was offended, there will be a note of apology and a gift card presented on behalf of F3 to that individual.  YHC will see to it.
  7. Thank you to @Skipper for taking down the war paint table!  Great to see you at Highlands.
  8. Moral of the morning – Silence the inner monologue and just listen to @Nanny.

Always an honor to lead the PAX!

  1. I have to confess that my early lead was the result of inadvertently substituting my forty lunges with some kind of modified split leg squat thing during the first round. I guess I was having trouble concentrating with my eardrums vibrating at such a high level. Once I noticed that I was actually ahead of @Hugo and @Brinkley I knew I must have been doing something wrong. After going back to traditional lunges during the second round, I quickly fell back to the rest of the PAX where I belonged.

Nice lead today @Alcatraz, as always. Well done @Hugo, a well deserved victory.

  2. Ahoy! Great Q @Alcatraz. Glad to finally make it out for a #TouchdownBeatdown! #didnotdisappoint

    1. @Skipper, you get bonus points for actually wearing a jersey.

  3. True story: @Skipper shared his inner monologue with me during Round II: “Alcatraz’s Minivan produces some impressive sound.” Continued truth: @Alcatraz was much-more subdued during AM Carpool. I asked him, “Where’s your Usher?” (among many other vehicles, mind you); I anxiously await the morning of #touchdownbeatdown when the face-paint and Drowning Pool come roaring through. Until then…see you gentlemen in the Gloom!

  4. Great beatdown. This workout is a nice gauge of fitness since you know what to expect. Was trying to stay with @Hugo but he seemed to gain energy as the workout progressed. The louder music was very motivating and seemed to energize the group. Too bad the neighbors did not see it that way. As expected there was a dialogue started on Nextdoor titled “Loud music at 5:30 am”. Seems that without the leaf dampener the music could be heard a half mile away. One of the comments: “Is that where it’s coming from?? Good lawd! I live over in Brookside and it sounds like a concert going on!!! Wth is going on?!!! “. @Alcatraz you literally ROCK!

    1. Did you notice the most recent comment in that chain? “Could it have been F3 working out?”. RESPECT
