We began our time with a vigorous discussion of Ernest Becker’s book “The Denial of Death.”

The following quotation played a formative role in our workout:

“The irony of man’s condition is that the deepest need is to be free of the anxiety of death and annihilation; but it is life itself which awakens it, and so we must shrink from being fully alive.”
Ernest Becker, The Denial of Death

So – as you can see – we had to start by finding large rocks.  We ran to a location where our intel had told us we could procure rocks.  Sure enough, they were there.  We grabbed’em!  We ran with those rocks around the track (sometimes over our heads, sometimes hold’n them rocks like pigskins).  We did step-ups (20 ea. leg) with those rocks at the picnic tables.  We did dips (x20).  We did jump-ups (x10) while hold’n them rocks.  We did derkins (x15).  We did more rock hold’n jump-ups (x10).  And we did more RHJU’s (x10)!  Then we lunged with them rocks.  Then we stood far away from the rock procuring location and heaved those rocks back from whence they came!

Then we ran away from those rocks – doing karaoke and butt-kickers, and high-knees, and backwards run’n all along the way.  We ran, and ran, and ran …until we arrived at the cone factory (a dolly piled to the sky with traffic cones!).  We snatched up them cones and started doing Russian Twists with the cones (x20), and WWII sit-ups (x20), and knee-ups (x15), and WWII sit-ups (x10), and then we set aside them cones and did flutter kicks (x20), and then we did dolly leggers (x20), and then WWII sit-ups (x10), and then ran them cones back from whence they came.

Then it was clipboard dude workout lap attack.  Called exercise, lap, do ex till dude returns.  4 dudes (x2).

B2W (1 min).

People’s chair (rt. leg high, flapjack, 40 Air Presses IC).

Finally, Deuce took us all the way back to the 1970’s with a 14 min. session of YOGA!

Done.

“To live fully is to live with an awareness of the rumble of terror that underlies everything.”
Ernest Becker

  1. Good lead, Babyface! And a nice backblast, too. The 1970s reference has nothing to do with my age, does it? I can assure I have very little memory of the 70s, although it would be a lot more than the rest of you guys . . . Hate, hate, hate.
