Exercising is easy; Math is the hard part!
All The Dawg House BackblastsMay 14th, 2021
9 peeps joined YHC for all the fun a guy could stand on a Friday morning. 5:30:59 on the watch, cardboard wienke in hand, disclaimer given, let’s mosey.
Warmup near the front of the school at the drop-off circle
- SSH IC x15
- Low slow squats IC x10
- Hillbillies IC x10
- Arm circles forward and back while YHC explains the fun ahead; slap yourself on the back a few times
Mosey to the end of the drop-off circle sidewalk and time to get down to business. YHC went through all the exercises with the PAX to show the routine, something like this:
- 1- Burpee; run the sidewalk up to the top of the drop-off circle
- 2- Low flutter kicks, each leg = 1 rep; run back down the sidewalk
- 3- Merkins; run up the sidewalk
- 4- Squats; run down the sidewalk
- 3- Plank Jacks; run up the sidewalk
- 2- LBCs; run down the sidewalk
- 1- Lunges, each leg = 1 rep
- run around the drop-off circle until the last man starts his lap, circle back to pick up the 6 and finish together
Here is where it got really hard for grown men to fully grasp the exercise to do and the number of reps to do. This is why we exercise together so we can all help the other guy remember what is next (and to make smart comments and snide remarks about how the sequence works and which round it is and this sucks and so forth. YHC feels nothing but love when the complaints start, it means you hate it enough to do it).
- Round 1: 7x multiplier meaning you do 7x the number of each exercise in the sequence. Burpee being #1, that would be 7 x 1 = 7 Burpees. Low Flutter Kicks being #2, that would be 7 x 2 = 14 LFK (each leg = 1 rep). Continue the sequence.
- Round 2: 6x
- Round 3: 5x
- Round 4: 4x, but do all the exercises at the bottom of the drop-off circle to save time, no lap at the end
- Round 5: 3x, all exercises at the top of the drop-off circle
- Round 6: 2x, all exercises at the bottom of the drop-off circle
- Round 7: 1x, all exercises at the top of the drop-off circle
With everyone having completed all the rounds, we mosey’d back to the cars and as YHC had everything perfectly timed, we were able to skip out on Mary as the clock hit 6:15. Strava showed a little over 3 miles of fun. Look at those smiles!

Sure, doing math and exercises isn’t always easy but let’s not just be stronger in body only. Props to Dr. Lecter for the original exercise list and then I decided to put my spin on it to make sure we got enough miles in while also staying together for all the typical chatter a workout is good for. Not much chatter though, just comments about which exercise is next and how many reps are there supposed to be this round, etc. But at least we stayed together. And the weather was awesome. And Tugboat Willie emerged from the gloom after completing his neighborhood run. And everyone finished. And no one got hurt. And by 6:15 we’d all put in a good sweat effort and can go through the rest of the day patting ourselves on the back for taking such great care of the body the good Lord has blessed us with.
Peace out homeys!
