Embrace the Hard Things
All BackBlasts BackblastsAugust 28th, 2020
Five men from Highlands made the choice to do the hard thing this morning, convening in the Golf Club parking lot to start Friday with some Cardio.
When YHC pulled in at 5:29, only @poutine and @kleanup were present. But soon @glock and @nextdoor joined the fray and YHC gave the disclaimer before a quick mosey around the lot. We then circled up for…
Warmarama
- SSH x19
- Windmill x10
- IST x15
- Daisy Picker x15
The Thang
Head to one set of islands and partner up. Partner 1 runs across and back in designated manner while Partner 2 does listed exercise. Continue until team completes 200 reps of each. All exercises are 2=1. After each round we moseyed the lot for a little stasis to level the heart rate.
- Round 1: standard run // Mountain Climber
- Round 2: karaoke // Heisman (modified to 100)
- Round 3: quadraphelia // plank jack
We then moseyed to edge of the lot for a variation of the merkin relay combined with @pavarotti Huntersville Hustle. New name TBD. Each member of the Pax holds first position while one Pax starts the listed exercise, counting out loud to 10. At 5, the person to their right can begin. Upon completion Pax were told to sprint to other side of the lot. If you got caught, 5 penalty burpees. After each round, slow mosey/wosey back up the hill.
- Round 1: Hold – Plank // Exercise – Merkin
- Round 2: Hold – Al Gore // Exercise – Squat
- Round 3: Hold – low flutter start // Exercise – reverse crunch
- Round 4: Hold – Nancy Kerrigan // Exercise-lunge
- Round 5: Hold – Plank // Exercise – Merkin
There was some time left, so YHC decided to combo Mary with some more cardio via parking lot suicides. Start at the first set of parking spots and sprint to the second, doing five LBCs before sprinting back. Then to the third set of spots for 10 LBCs and back, followed by a sprint all the way down for 15 LBCs and a return sprint.
Mary
- Various 10-count stretches to end things
- Recover, recover

- Great work today men. When I called the laterals/heismans @poutine looked at me like I was crazy. I reminded him that we were there to do hard things, not easy things. We also mentioned during the workout that this would be the hardest thing we all do for the day so no reason to not push ourselves.
- Great conversation after the workout about recent events with our resident police officer @nextdoor. Certainly wasn’t agreement across all Pax present, but a respectful conversation none the less. This is another element of embracing the hard thing. It’s easy to have conversations with people we agree with, but much harder to have conversations with folks with whom we may disagree. It’s important for everyone to have these conversations and expand your sphere of influence. As I mentioned this morning, we can’t expect to understand the view-point of others and have empathy if we don’t listen.
- Iron Pax Week 1 is Tuesday, so still time to sign up. Preblast here (https://f3-meca.com/2020/08/13/preblast-iron-pax-challenge-at-highlands/) which includes the Google Doc link. There will be a championship belt awarded for the Highlands Champion.
- Still working out details for the Highlands play-in tournament for the Oct. 3 MeCa golf tournament that @koolaid is organizing. If interested in playing, grab a partner (must be a Pax) and hit up slack.
