Return to Sisyphus Hill

All Highlands Backblasts

August 27th, 2020 By Brinkley

5 PAX joined YHC for the weekly edition of Brinkley’s Bootcamp after a two-week hiatus for surgery to repair a detached retina. @Dutchboy came over to say hey after the 5:30 AM edition led by @Sugar then we proceeded with the 6:30 AM edition of this morning’s fun.  Disclaimer was given and we went for a slow mosey around the parking lot with butt kickers and high knees before circling up to start the beatdown with…

THE THANG

A couple months ago YHC introduced the PAX attending a Thursday morning beatdown to the myth of Sisyphus. Because of the distance from the golf course parking lot and adding in some stops along the way the number of reps on the hill did not do it justice. After that it has been on the books to repeat it with more time on the hill.  For those unfamiliar with this myth here is the very abbreviated version.  Sisyphus was a bad Greek king who kept making Zeus mad.  You don’t want to make Zeus mad.  As his final punishment Zeus banished Sisyphus to Hades where he is spending eternity pushing a rock up a hill.  Just as he is about to crest the hill the rock rolls back to the bottom and Sisyphus starts again.

To replicate this in the real world for a bunch of good guys who do not deserve a drastic punishment like Sisyphus we did the following:

Mosey down to the drainage ditch with the rocks on the other side of the lake.  Threw in some lunges across the dam bridge.  Had the PAX retrieve a rock they would have for the remainder of the beatdown.  Continued the journey to the hill with walking sets of overhead presses, curls and skull crushers along the way.  Once at the top of the hill we went through 13 cycles of throwing the rock down the hill, retrieving it from the bottom and carrying it back up then completing varying reps of exercises designated by rotating through the PAX.  Exercises YHC remembered were Burpees, CDD’s, Diamond Merkins, Apolo Ohno’s (only one L), Upright rows, curl & press…).

After completing our exercises we returned to the drainage ditch with more walking presses, curls and skull crushers.  No longer encumbered by our rocks we mosey’d back to the parking lot for Mary.

Moleskin:

  1. Beatdown turned out well with plenty of work and opportunity for F2.
  2. Some of the PAX were very conservative in the rocks they picked. Won’t mention names but you know who you are.
  3. @Alcatraz tried to be helpful suggesting that we pick up our rocks from the drainage area closer to the hill. This was a good idea but would have deprived us of the extra time bonding with our rocks during the walk to the hill.
  4. Great to have @Conchito back out in the gloom. @Sully convinced him to return then fartsacked.
  5. TAP’s to those on the Gulf Coast impacted by Hurricane Laura.
  6. Keep EH’ing your friends, neighbors and strangers who can benefit from F3. Also encourage those Kotter’s to come back when they are ready.
