Kojak and the Ruck-A-Thon

All All MECA Backblasts

June 1st, 2020 By SoloCup

As many of you know, our man @Kojak, who is one tough Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer, took it upon himself to do a 24 hour ruck on Memorial Day Weekend on the monotonous one tenth mile track in Harrisburg’s Veterans Park for three important reasons:

  1. Since Memorial Day was the following Monday, to remember the brave men and women who died protecting this great country of ours and allow us to have the freedoms that we enjoy.  Every hour was dedicated to a Veteran who gave their all in service for this country.
  2. National Police Week was scheduled for May 10-16 but most of the services and remembrances were cancelled due to Covid-19.  Kojak would have participated in the Memorial Service in Charlotte so he used this ruck as a way to remember those in law enforcement that paid the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.
  3. Raising funds for the Harrisburg Community Food Pantry which is being counted on by the community more than usual recently.

Kojak started the ruck on the short Veterans Park loop at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 23, and finished 24 hours later at 0900 on Sunday. Accompanied at all times by rotating bands of supportive F3MeCa Brothers, he battled fatigue and dehydration to cover over 60 miles. Kojak raised $3260 which has been donated to the Community Food Pantry

The following Monday, he joined us in our Memorial Day Murph, where he did Handstand Merkins (with a ruck) in lieu of pull-ups.  To say this man is a Stud, is an understatement.

Kojak is not naturally an outgoing, gregarious, social butterfly.  In fact, he is a quiet and unassuming HIM, who regularly puts in the work, and shies away from recognition.  It took some serious convincing for him to agree to let me send this message.

This is an awesome example of someone who took an idea, prayed on it, sought out the resources needed to pull it off, and did the Thang.  He is proof, that you don’t have to be the man out front to be a leader.

Thank you to everyone for doing the work you do to keep this thing of ours moving forward,
