Celebrating the Azerbaijan Day of Physical Culture and Sport
All Highlands BackblastsMarch 5th, 2020
Since the United States is a melting pot of individuals from various nationalities YHC thought it would be nice to pay tribute to our Azerbaijani Brothers who are celebrating a Day of Physical Culture and Sport that was proclaimed in 2005 by President Ilham Aliyev. Ilham Aliyev established this holiday in recognition of the importance of physical culture in strengthening health of the Azerbaijani people.
After the customary disclaimer the PAX moseyed across the parking lot and circled up in front of the middle school for:
WARMARAMA
- SSH x 19
- IST’s x 15
- Hill Billies x 15
- Mountain Climber x 15
- Cotton Picker x 15
- Merkin x 15
- Low Slow Squat x15
THE THANG
The PAX were asked to pair up with someone they had not partnered with much before. Then they cycled through a series of exercises with the task to complete a given number of reps. One partner would complete the exercise while the other partner ran a lap around the small island in front of the Middle School alcove. The exercises were as follows:
- 200 Step ups (counting each leg) and 200 Dips
- 200 Incline Merkins and 200 LBC’s
- 200 1 Leg Squats (rotating legs after each 10) and 200 Freddy Mercury’s
In between each pair of exercises after a 20 count the PAX were quizzed on various aspects of Azerbaijan. These included:
- Capital – Baku
- Currency – Manat
- Language – Azeri (also most Azerbaijani’s speak Russian for obvious reasons)
- Countries that border Azerbaijan: Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Russia
MARY
- Low Flutter x 15
- Pretzel Crunch x 15 – Flapjack

MOLESKIN:
- Always interesting to learn about other countries and cultures. Another interesting fact about Azerbaijan is that Neft Daslari started as a single path over water to an oil platform and is now a functional city of 2000 that sits on piles of dirt and landfill connected through a series of paths and platforms built on the back of ships sunk to form the city’s foundation.
- Good having passporters Kojak, Luigi and Bonvoy join us this moring.
- Nice seeing some of the guys who were at HDHH made it to the beatdown this morning unlike @Barrister.
