Slowing Down to Speed Up
All The Valley BackblastsFebruary 5th, 2020
8 pax posted for a cruise focused on slowing down and getting in good fellowship (started with 5 then picked up 3 at various points along the way). The route started at Tradition, ran to and then down Senator Royale, then up David Taylor, then back to Tradition for 4.7 miles. Goal was to get a group pace of 9:15-9:30. We ended up right around 8:50 for most of the Pax, so not too far off the pace.
In the COT (in which YHC forgot to count off…) we discussed the concept of “slowing down to speed up”. While there are a number of different theories about how exactly to implement this sort of training, my reading of various articles and research indicates it is generally accepted that running slower will help increase your speed and endurance. I can attest to the fact that this has greatly helped me since I have started running more slowly within the past year (for me, getting more runs in the 10:00 – 10:30 range). I can increase my mileage more quickly, recover much quicker and have had fewer aches and pains along the way. For us in F3, I think we also got some good 2nd F by staying closer together this morning.
Moleskine:
- I always forget how long David Taylor is.
- Great to see Urlacher and Pavlov out there.
- Please let me know your thoughts on this training concept. Very interested to hear if you agree or disagree.
