Old Glory comes back to the Hill, NEVER run without the Flag!!
All East Charlotte BackblastsNovember 26th, 2019
YHC was filling in for a beloved brother who is on the IR (Get well soon Crabs!). It’s a cold one today, hovering around 32 degree, the best way I know to keep warm is…OLD GLORY.
Shovel flags planed at 0525, Pax are rolling in: one, two, three…..nine we are. I begin with a lousy disclaimer and then tell everyone of my plan (1 mi run, 4 corners of fun, 1 mile run). Fortunately we have a few new Pax in the midst which lessened the grumbles and groans. Ribshack then asked me the best question of the day: “Are we doing the ‘Ridge’ version or the ‘Highlands’ version because one of them is easier than the other”, he said. 😉 Can you guess which AO is sans burpees?
So, at 0530 we grab the flag and off we go on our 1 mile run. Up 218 towards the Fire Department, turn around at the red blinking light and back. In the large parking lot we identified 4 corners. YHC was in the giving mood and laid out the 4 corners as follows:
Corner 1 – 10 burpees (yes, only 10 – I wanted to be somewhere between The Ridge and Highlands in difficulty level)
Corner 2 – 20 jump squats
Corner 3 – 20 merkins
Corner 4 – 20 WWII’s
Repeato until time is called at 0600
We gather up at the Flag and begin counting heads before our run; one, two, three….seven. Missing two, Silas and Spackler. Where are they? Someone got sick? Check the bathroom. Abducted? I divide up the Pax in half and send one team in one direction and the other in the opposite to find the missing Pax. “Gather at the Flag in 2 minutes!”, I belched. We are back and no report of the 2 lost men. Someone thinks they took off early for the final mile run. Really!? Newbees!! They don’t know the rule that you NEVER run Old Glory without the Flag in hand and you NEVER run ahead of the Flag!! We take off to find the fugitives and catch up with them en route. After a mild scolding from YHC we were all racing back to home base in an effort to finish on time.
0616 the last of the six were in an then we had a little…

- Never, ever run Old Glory without the Flag in Hand. Nuff said.
- Thanks to everyone who came to F3riends-giving on Saturday. Good times, good fellowship, creepy Santa.
- F3 unwritten rule, in case you didn’t know this, is that you can only poke fun at a Q or participants if you ATTENDED the workout. If you fartsacked the workout, keep your mouth shut! Well, maybe this was just a NJ rule but I like it.
- F3 fact – when a Pax member turns 50+ their eyes get worse and their fingers fat so please understand when you see typos in their Back Blasts and tweets (i.e Gkory = Glory) HA! LOL.
- Always an honor to lead you men. AYE! SYITG!
