“I have reached the top of the mountain and it is good” – Beavis
All Afton BackblastsNovember 4th, 2019
7 Pax ignored the first below freezing morning and came to Afton to get some miles in. We have been doing our typical route the past few weeks so I decided on Sunday to go back to an old Hop Hunter favorite…The Mt Afton Loop. This is a popular route for BRR training but since only Hop participates in it not everyone at Afton is a fan.
I like to send a preblast message on Slack. I knew it would be a risk to post “Let’s run the Mt Afton Loop” (Back Story – the last time I announced a sucky beatdown on me and 1 other person showed up). With that said, I announced the run with a quote from Beavis (From the Beavis and Butt Head movie)…”I have reached the top of the mountain and it is good.” I figured the message could be taken as an inspirational message to get people out, but really it was subtle way to announce we had hill work ahead of us.
The result 7 pax total which is strong for a Monday Afton run. A few things could have played factor: either no one read my preblast (cough cough Tug Boat), my plan of inspiring people w/ a mixed message worked, or I just got lucky. Probably the latter.
With a quick disclaimer we headed towards Mt Afton to start the loop. The group did about 4.5-6 miles and we gathered at the top to admire our accomplishment. For some reason, Monday runs/beat downs are hard but the group were definitely better for it.
