Monday Morning Climb Round 2…
All Afton BackblastsAugust 19th, 2019
Today was the last Afton Cruise Q for YHC before the Blue Ridge Relay. Last week YHC had tweaked the famed Mount Afton run to extend the distance and climb per lap. It seemed to be a big hit. No one said much afterwards, but I was pretty sure they must of loved it. YHC decided to take a peak at Slack late on Sunday and found that Big Blue has served up a pre-blast for YHC. What a guy… he was even showing some concern about YHC getting some rest from the hills. Shortly after that 4-Wide voiced his support of Big Blue’s plan and his concern for YHC. Hard to beat having brothers that care so much… so YHC decided the love had to be reciprocated by YHC not cheating Blue or 4-Wide or the rest of the pax Their fitness was way more important than YHC resting. Decision made, YHC had to take one for the team and make sure the pax got all the climbing they could have hoped for. 5 studs beat the fartsack, and joined YHC in the gloom. It went something like this….
The route this am was repeato of the Mount Afton laps that seemed to be a new pax favorite a week ago. Wheels up, the Pax took a right down the path out of the parking lot, down the trail and into Afton Village on Burck Drive, so that the hill work could begin as quickly as possible. We ran a little over a 1/4 mile to the corner of Burck and Fetzer. YHC let the pax know that this was the starting point for each lap. From there we ran on Burck then right on Nolen Ave. (up the hill) and then followed the normal route to the top of Mount Afton and back down. On the downhill, we ran straight down Fetzer to the corner to complete 1 lap, which was close to 1 mile. From there it was repeato until time ran out. The gathered as a group for one last trip to the top, then headed back down and hit the “normal” cruise route back to home base. In the end, the pax knocked out 5 to 6 miles and climbed close to 500 feet. Strong work by all!
