#F3MentalBattle (and not just the never-ending winter temps)
All Rolling Stone BackblastsMarch 27th, 2019
6 #HIM abandoned the fartsack to take on a last ditch effort by Mother Nature to keep everyone from packing away the winter clothes as spring attempts to make an appearance.
Disclaimer given with the added note of being back to the AO for COT a little early.
2 ruckers went on their way down the greenway and weaved back through the neighborhood. About 2.4 miles covered
4 runners set off for the track for a modified magic mile test. Two slow jogging laps a little stretching then all out for 1 mile. THen jog it out for the rest of the time. About 3.8 miles covered, mostly in circles turning left. #NASCARcountry
Announcements
- Comanche 2-year anniversary converge tomorrow. Dark Helmet with a special guest Q.
- Rolling Stone will still be led by Sugar. Truly can’t go wrong with either option.
COT / Moleskin
- A special request was put out by F3 Louisville to discuss mental health issues. It was brought up as one member mentioned his friend committing suicide just an hour after they were together. Another lost his father to suicide. Recently there have been two students who survived the Parkland Shooting in Florida who commit suicide and the dad of a victim at Newtown elementary.
- Obviously suicide is the end all but there are usually a lot of stages before it gets to that point. Discovering there is a problem and working through that problem early, before it escalates, is the key to successfully defusing a situation.
- I have seen stats that the population most affected by mental health issues is men ages 40-53. Guess where the majority of F3 Nation’s population falls? Right in line with that age group.
- Mental health issues can affect different people in different ways. It is very important to talk about these things. Go to a therapist if that’s your thing or you have tons of HIM around that are more than willing to listen and talk. If you aren’t sure who to go to, I am always available. I think my M even once told me I was a good listener. It was hard to hear what she was saying over the basketball game though so I could be mistaken.
- Back on a serious note, find your brothers, friends, mentors, spouses and talk to them. It’s OK to discuss different issues with different people. Sometimes you want to discuss with someone who understands the situation, sometimes you want someone completely removed. Sometimes you want advice, some times you just want an ear to vent to. Whatever it is, talk it out.
- YHC have not partaken in them but I believe there are Whetstone opportunities to have a more dedicated mentor within MECA as a regular resource. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could mention them at the next COT for those interested (or post some basics on Slack).
- Please don’t be afraid to discuss mental health issues. We take care of our physical health during the beat downs but taking care of our mental health is equally if not more important. We are all in this together and we can all win the #F3MentalBattle.
