Watch Out for Sweat in Turn Four
All Highlands BackblastsJune 5th, 2018
Twenty-two men showed up at Highland Creek Elementary School this morning for the fifth running of the Dropcloth 500. Ignoring some negative mumble chatter (cough, @Gump) at the sight of YHC’s return from an early summer vacation, a thorough disclaimer was given and the PAX were off towards the bus lot with a quick mosey that included backwards runs and sideways shuffles. Here’s how it all went down:

THE THANG
The PAX were led over into the bus turnout lane (pit row) and given instructions for the day. Several groans (and one cheer, thanks @Barrister) were heard upon the sight of YHC’s favorite Weinke bearing step stool. The Dropcloth 500 is a cumulative series of seven exercises that includes a big boy lap around the entire parking lot (roughly 500 meters) after each set. The exercises are as follows:
- 10 burpees
- 20 lunges (single leg)
- 30 merkins
- 40 squats
- 50 LBC
- 60 Rocky Balboas
- 70 Freddy Mercury
The PAX starts with the burpees, runs a lap, then adds one new exercise to the set each time. The exercises can be completed in any order or combination which led to some interesting strategies by the PAX. The goal is to complete seven laps (about 1.8 miles) in the allotted thirty minute window. The PAX was strong today despite the warm temperatures and several men were able to complete the goal. There was some confusion about who the top finisher was between @Kool Aid and @Buffalo Bill so they will have to share the virtual trophy.

- Thanks to everyone who posted today. Attendance has definitely picked up with the arrival of warmer weather and additional daylight. It was hot out there but not unbearable.
- Welcome to FNG Scott McGovney who made his first post today. Scott lives over on Skyline drive and has seen us working out before and finally decided to join in the fun. Scott starts work at 530AM (yikes) but occasionally has mornings off and promised to come back soon to get a nickname. Nice work for a rookie today.
- It was nice to see some of our Lake Norman Charter School team out today in @Powerball and @Fame. We hope to see more of you during the week now that school is out.
- It seemed like bad luck to have to complete such a rigorous beatdown in June so today’s workout was sponsored by the number thirteen. Plus @Gump was extremely chatty today which is never good for anybody.
- @Buffalo Bill reminded everyone that CMPD’s finest have been patrolling Highland Creek Parkway in the morning so keep your speed down on the way home. Unfortunately this warning comes a few days too late for @Slappy. Sorry buddy.
- Hump Day Happy Hour is tomorrow night (June 6) at 26 Acres across from the Concord Airport. I usually get there around 8PM but apparently there are plenty of men starting much earlier than that. Come join us for a cold beer and some Second F if you get a chance.
- I represent the last member of @Barrister’s Sign-Up Genius filling basketball tournament so we need some new guys to sign up to ‘Q’ in June. Please consider leading just once a month to keep the fun going. If I can do this anyone can.

You are welcome @disaster. I enjoy any workouts that push me and this one definitely pushes me. Signup guys, you don’t want me pulling out the Australian King of the Hill do you?!?!?
Thanks for the s/o @Disaster. You will definitely see me out more frequently…in fact, check out who’s got Thursday’s Q!
Personally, I think we all share a virtual trophy. Isn’t that the Millennial mindset, @Gump?
Thanks for the lead @Disaster. I grabbed next Tues, 6/12.
Have a definite love/hate feeling for this beatdown. It forces you to stay uncomfortable throughout but gives a good sense of accomplishment. Great turnout for the first Tuesday in June!
