Today we were nearly twice the man that Google ever was
All Highlands BackblastsApril 27th, 2018
Four men showed up in the cold mists of the Highlands this morning for a challenging Speed workout. @Pavarotti was sleeping off his NFL Draft hangover and @Stoli is on month eight of his contract holdout so YHC was a late addition to the ‘Q’ (it was only my third one this week, what else is new?). @Gordo showed up with an unexpected passenger/hitchhiker in @Bling who was making his first Speed appearance in quite a while. @Wild Turkey pulled in right at 530AM and we were off.
Long run down through the parking lot towards the front entrance. Race up the dark, haunted hill towards Street Street alternating forwards and backwards runs at each tree. Turn right at the stop sign and mosey up to Ridge Road with some high knee skips thrown in to prove our masculinity. Turn right at the next stop sign and race towards the fire station, stopping at Shelley Avenue because goodness that’s a lot farther than I remembered. Mosey for another block and turn left onto Creek Breeze Road. Alternate sprints and jogs at each driveway until we get to the bottom of the hill for the main event.
Sprint up the big strava hill, starting at the stop sign and finishing at the guard rail up beside I-485. Stop to rest while we wait for the six and then mosey back down to the bottom. Repeato X 4 with a long slow ten count (thanks @Gordo) before each one. @Wild Turkey heard a rumor that we might be doing this so he brought his phone to keep track of our times. The good news is that our best time was right at the two minute mark. The bad news is that we came nowhere close to breaking @Google’s record of seventy seconds (holy crap that guy was fast). We had some nice second F as we moseyed back down the hill each time trying to catch our breath again.
After four laps we headed back to the school, alternating sprints and jogs at each driveway again. YHC tried to take a wrong turn at Ridge Road but fortunately @Bling knew how to get us home. Long slow mosey back to the bus lot, dodging a speeding school bus as we ran. We had a little extra time so we lined up on the first basketball goal for three sets of bus lot races:
- Jog to first goal, sprint to second goal, jog to third goal, sprint to the tree
- Jog past the first goal to the second goal, sprint past the third goal to the fourth goal
- Jog to the first goal, sprint past the second and third goals to the tree

- Nice work by the PAX today. @Wild Turkey set a fast pace for everyone as usual. @Gordo showed that his mountain goat skills last month were no fluke as he continued to fly up the hill. @Bling looked like he was rethinking his decision to come back to Speed once or twice but still showed some mean running skills and endurance out there.
- The Sign Up Genius is surprisingly full through the rest of the month (thanks @Barrister) with @Murdock taking the Q at HCCP tomorrow (shocker). Don’t forget Murph Monday next week. 530AM on April 30 at the Highland Creek Sports Club.
- Hug your kids today and tell your wife you love her because she needs to hear it out loud every now and then.

@Disaster, thank you for the Q this morning. I hadn’t done that hill before as a sprint. I realized today I need to really do Speed more often. Glad we had @wild turkey and @bling. Who wants to be in the dark with @disaster for 45 minutes.
Thanks for posting today @Gordo. @Pavarotti has survived several one-on-one Speed workouts with me in the dark and so far has come away relatively unscathed. It is always more fun with several guys posting though. Maybe the warm weather will start bringing more men out on Fridays.
Great BB, Disaster. Sounds like I missed a good one. That new Steeler safety better be the real deal.
Thanks for taking the reins this morning. You never disappoint. We’ll have to visit Strava segment hill again and beat that thing called Google.
